Moloney was third in her flight and sixth in the semi-finals in juvenile ladies competition at the sectionals that includes club members from Whitby east to Ottawa. Moloney was sharp in the finals finishing second in figures and third in free skate, to place second overail among 98 skaters. Former world champion Don Jackson presented the silver medal to Moloney. Ninacs, a longtime member of the Whitby club, and partner Kevin Cheshire of the Uper: The two repesented the Uxbridge Skating Club at the bronze medallists in novice dance at the Canadian cham- p ionships in Edmonton last Jauary and are niembers of Canada's junior national team. They are competing in junior dance for the first time. Lori Ricica, representing the Whitby Figure Skating Club, was third in the first round of pre-novice ladies, first in the semi-finals llth after fligures and seventi after free skate for an overal lth-place finish. In a separate event of her short program, she was f»ifth. Ricica, monitored by the Cana- dian Figure Skating Association as an "identified skater with high potential " trains during the summer in lâarrie with coach Robert Pollard alongside Doug Leigh who coaclies Elvis Stojko. Tara Williams, the third meni- ber of the Whitby club at the event, was lOth in her flight in juvenile ladies. Though missing two regular players te begin with and losing another in the first period due te a penalty, Whitby won 8-6. It was a very physical gaine with big checks, and several big saves from Whitby goalie Justin Zammt. In the ifirst game, their -only, less in the two-day tournament, Hawks battled te the final buzzer before falling to Markham's Markville 6-5. Mark Vanderlip had a strong game with three goals and an assist on Darryl Hurst's xarker. Sniper Josh Thonipson notched a goal and an assist. Set-up man Woody Lee had two assists while Brandon Wall and Brett Huether each had one. Bud Wye was a rock on the Hawk's blueline throughout. The second game saw Henry defeat Northern 7-2. Whitby opened the scoring and within two minutes of play had a 2-0 lead. The end of the first period saw the gaine tied at 4-4. Whitby then found theniselves down 7-5 but within the final minute of the gaine scored two unanswered goals te force the fie. Stephanie Marlow had three goals, Melanie Davis. two, single goals by Ellen Johnson and Tania Chappell. Leading the way with assists were Jennifer Penney and Chappell with three each. Goaltender Heather Hurst played well against the high-powered team. of a penalty situation and tied it up. Scoring for Whitby wèe Farquharson and David Morasse. Whiitby faced Central on Sunday afternoon and finished the weekend with a 7-4 victory. Goalscorers were McBride and Down with two goals each with single inarkers ceming frein Branch, Frazer and Judd Stevenson. Jay Harrison and Stevenson each had two assista. Jeremy Flsher and Mark Cipparone handed eut some big checks on the blueline whenever Central pressured.. Murray, Brad leée, Hurst and Chris Blueman. Mike Kryhul had three assists and- Jeel Phair two. Huether had a very physical gaine, crushing multiple Northerners. In their third game, Hawks prevailed 3-2 over Mississauga's Gordon Graydon. Vanderlip netted two on passes fromn Wall and Hurst with Phair tallying the other on a pretty feed from W ail. Brent Giles, Blueman, Wye, Huether and Jason Robinson were aIl steady on defence, taking the body consistently. In the semi-final gaine against Thornhill's Thornlea, goalie Chris Mace stook on his head te stop several dangerous Thornlea attempts. Vanderlip scored first on a solo effort and Lee sealed the 2-0 win, scoring from Huether and Jason Linden. Mace's shuteut performance paved the way for the Hawks championship berth. Techampionship gaine pitted Henry against a* strong Robert' Hall club from Brampton. Once again outstanding goaltending played a major role in the victorious 3-2 outcome for Hawks. Opening thé scoring was? Vanderlip on a picture perfect pass from Wall and Wye. Hurst thon scored two huge goals, the firet assisted by Vanderlip and Robinson -and the second off the draw from Vanderlip and Huether. Marcus Rancourt had a solid game for Hawks. The coaching staff consists of Gord Brady, Harvey Bischof, Kevin Tushingham and manager Rob Drury. "We're looling forward te a fun and successful season," stated centre Lee, when asked of the team's future. Whitby too strong for opponenits The Whitby under-14 rep A boys' soccer team continued its unbeaten streak in the youth indoor league at Soccer City. The teain, sponsored by Termina Homes, won 11-0 and 14-0 over Oshawa Turul and Ajax Warriors. In the toughest test se far this season, Terriers took on Peterborough and handed them their first loss of the season by a score of 11-3. Doing most of the damage for Terriers was the dynamic duo of Graham MacLean and Mike KlDukowski' with five and four goals respectively. Other members of the tearn are Ryan O'Hearn (goalie),, Matt Brady, Robbie Adamis, Terry Lawrenson, Jin Roufos, Matt McGrady, Matt Geof'froy,, Chris Comacho, Adamn Moînar, Ryan Evelyn, David Wishart, Justin Groden and Chris Coteu.. The tearn plays Sundays and trains fliursdays at Soccer City, and is coached by Bill Groden. and Jin MacLean.
