OsIer races ini the challenge sprint series on road courses -- but won the sorios at the U.S indcor championships in Syra- cuse, N.Y. There was some concern when scheduling probleins forced organizers to finish the sprint season indeors, as sprint drivers set their karts differently from these on the indoor oval racing circuit. But Osier managed to finish flfth. enough to win the chain- pionship. Osli has been racing karts for nine years, the last six in the cempetitive U.S. series. The past season was his first at the Po Kart level. Jason (Jay) Bradimore of Whiitby recently won the Ontario Kart Racing Association 1994 championship in the national clasa, and was aise the year's club winner in the national clams at the Sutton Kart Club.. The Ontario Kart' Racing Association (OKRA) championship was a six-race series, and Bradimore, 20, faced off against Ontario's top two-stroke racers. John Bensen, the favourite te win the Canadien championship, had nersistent technical probleins and a spectacular flip that ended in an ambulance ride. After winning three -races in a row, it looked as though Bradimore had the overal chaxnpionship locked up, but Benson batted te the end and could have taken top spot had he been able te, win the last race. The Sutton Kart Club points race involved a 10-race sories. Bradimore was fast ail year and easily led the pack in the earlier races, but other competitions fought back as the season wore on. Mike Vasss flnished third overall and was Bradimores persistent opponent. Daring passing made it exciting racing. Bradimorels sponsors are Acanus, Unoliner, CK Auto Body, A&A Bumnpers, A&D Bumipers, Thorold Auto Parts and K&H Radiator. On Dec. 20, Witby played Etebicoke at Iroquois Parka match-up that involved close checing mixed with numereus breakaways and even a penalty shot. Etobicoke struck quickly, scoring in the first minute et the gaine. Whitby tied the score halfway through the first half with a goal by Michelle Theriault, set up by Natasha Carter and Anne Hendesn. Whitby took the lead early in the second period when Carter drew the defence te her in the cerner and passed te, Theriault alone in front ef the net. She waited for the goale te commit and calmly put the ring past her for the score. Etobicoke tied the gaine on a penalty shot and thon went ahead 3-2. On Dec. 22, WhitIhy, faced Oshawa, the club Wihitby must beat to go te the provincial chaxnpienships in March. Oshawa fortified their teeni with two players froni Teani Ontario for the exhibition match. Whitby scored early in the gaine, the combination of Theiault froin Carter again clickIng. Oshawa tied the score and counted agan late in the firat half te take a 2-1 lead at haiftuie. Whitby geaed up to the challenge in the second hait Giles' scored on a passng lay frein Jen Cotton and Cai Caoner. Later in' the period, the saine combination clicked again, this turne with Cotton sprung free on a one-on-one break, scoring on a strong upstairs forehand shot. The defence of Kama Easton, Lara Hugel, Anne Henderson and Kim Finn played on outstanding game against very stron competition, and cause uncounted turnovers and quick breakouts. Whitby rebounded immediately -and carried the play te Oshawa. Carter, wrappin up a excellent week,-netted thewinner with under a minute te play.
