Whitby defeated Peterborough 1-0. Both teains came out of the gates a little tentative and played most of the first two periods between the blue lines, the score knotted at 0-0 after two. Early in the. third period, while one man short, Scott Beetham sent Ryan Farrow in alone to score the only goafl. Goalie Bryan Sand recorded in semis the shutout. In gazne two against Orangeville, after trailing 1-0 after the first period, Wildcats exploded for four ansiwered goals, by Danny Caird, Bryan Mantle, Nick Verkuyl and Matt Graham. But Orangeville battled back te tie the game midway through the third. Goale Julian Owen made some great saves te shut Orangeville down and albow Verkuyl to score the game-winner on assiets. Sean Brackin, who set up two previous goals, potted an enxpty nete rom Verkuyl te close the ga=e aft 6 -4. 1In garne three against Belleville, Whitby got excellent goaltending from Owen and shut out Belleville 1-O on a wraparound goal by Farrow, unassisted. Wildcats advanced te the semi-finals against league-leadler Newmarket. Whitby came out strong and had several opportunities early but couldn't capitalize. Some great saves by Sand helped keep the gaine scoreless after two periods. With Whitby shorthanded, Newmarket scored the game-winner and added an empty net goal te win 2-0. The defence of Dami Amurawaiye, Beethain, John Gillard, Andrew Hamer, Jeif Pichut and Shawn Stephens had a very sitrong tournament. In beague action, Wildcats continued their winning ways with their fifth win in the last six, defeating Aurora 2-1. Mantde and Verkuyl scored. Goalie Owen faced 30 shots te nail down the victory. With only a second remaîning, Turcotte scored his second goal of the gaine to die Warran Park 3-3 in Whitby's second gae. Maguire scored the other Whitby goal. Jason Michie, a member of the strong defensive core for Whitby, was named MVP. Laforge Blake Robinson, Grahamiknox and Farquharson scored in a 4-1 win, over Burlington that gave Whithby first place in the A division. Simpson was named MVP. LEAGUE In league play on Dec. 22, Whitby defeated Ajax 5-2. Turcotte scored two goals unassisted and assisted on a goal by Maguire.. Robinson and Farquharson had the other goals.
