The. Houck House, bult ini 1859, is one of the fine homes on this year's tour. Lewis Houck bufit the- house at the corner of Bryon and John streets. The Houcks called it ' Homewood.' Houck originally built a frame house.a.nd'store at the corner of Dundas and Byron, streets in 1844. Ho was in the hardware business- but by 1860 hie. was dealing in the lucrative grain, trade. This probably mnade hlm .nough money to - build bis sustntalhome. « The . house remainod, in the Houck family until 1896. ' Te prsnt owners are Leslie and Magrt Bain who purchased the home in 1971. SAnother Whitby home on the tour ie' the Anderson-Flint House. Builti 1834, this home is the à 1dest brick building still standing in WhtW. William Anderson built the. houe. and farmed the adjaoent roprtyfor20 years. Anderson ~was named after hlm. William Flint, also a farmer, purchased the farm in 1855. It remamed ini the Flint faniily until Located in a subdivision, it took the co-operation of the developer to'set the historic house off as a separate lot in 1985. mhe present owners, John and Vera Hlugel, have done a wonderful jo of, restoring the 160-year-old house.. In Brooklin, the home of Judy and Charles Davis will also b. open for the tour. The house at 51 Cassels Rd& E. was built about 1906. The original owner was David Walter MacDonald who was the postmaster in Brooklin for 40 year until ho died in 1928. He was also treasurer of Whitby' Township frýom 1913 until 1928. Hli. daughter, Louie. Eleanor Cassady, continued to live ini the houe. until her death in 1970. O0ther houses on this year' tour are Richard and Cheryl Worr's home* in Myrtle, and the> Langley home on Princesse Street in Brooklin.. Trafalgar Castle will aléo b. on the tour this year.
