Anderson is one of five mem- bers on the board which oversees the circulation audits of more than 350 community newspapers across Canada. A circulation audit is an in- dependent third party verifica- tion of circulation statistics. The VO board is responsible for setting the procedures and standards te which the member newspapers are required te ad- here. .Anderson says he applied for the position because he believes that audited circulation is essen- tial te the image of the community newspaper industry. "Advertising is largely a cost per reader decision. Without third party verification te a stan- dard set of rules, newspapers wil almost always embellish their dlaims," says Anderson. "Every false dlaim diminishes the reputation of the entire industry.
