Page 22, WVhftby Free Press, Wediesday, Jurie 28,1995 The Whitby novice A lacrosse team, sponsored by the Brooklin and District Ktinsmen, lost in the final of the St. Catharines lacrosse tournament June 23-25. Whitby started the tournament with easy wins over Pelbam and Toronto Beaches. Leading Whitby in the 7-2 win over Pelham was Wayne Turcotte with- three assists. In the 13-3 win over Beaches, Whitby was- led by Derek McTeage who scored four times and added an assist, and Jared Millar with three goals and one assist. Whitby's next gaine, againat Hamilton, proved to be a tough struggle. Hamilton jumped off to a 2-0 lead within the first three minutes of the game..Turcotte finally got Whitby going, and Whitby tied the score 2-2 by the end of the first period. Each teain added two goals in the second period to keep the score even at 4-4. In the third period, Turcotte again got Whitby going, followed by a goal by Kyle MOusselman. Hamilton scored late to make it close, but Whitby prevailed 6-5. Mike Crystal had a goal and two assista. SWhitby. finished the round-robin portion of the tournainent with an 18-2 drubbing of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Whiàtby was led by Turcotte a goal and six assists, and Millar four goals and two assists. In the tournament champ- ionship gaine, Whitby met Mississauga-Clarkson. Mississ- auga got off to an early 2-0 lead, increased that lead to 5-1, and was in control the rest of the way, althouigh Whitby added two goals ko make it close at 5-3.
