Down three games ta one in the beat-of-seven Ontario major lacrosse semi-final saries, Redmen came up big with victories of 14-4 on Saturday i Whitby and 8-5 li Brampton on Monday night to, tie the aeries and force tonight's (8:30 p.m. 'start) seventh gaine ta detèrmine who will face Six Nations in the Ontario final. Jason Croshie, who had been called up from the Whitby Warriors junior A team, scored three goals, including the game-winner, i Monday's win. The teama had been tied 2-2 after one period, 5-5 after two periodas. Peter Park also broke out, acoring three goals and adding an assist, while Gary Gait, who expboded offensively with an eight- poit on Saturday, had a goal and three assistaei Monday's conteat. Paul St. John had the other Redmen goal. Bill Passfield, John Fuses and goalie Paddy O'Toole each had two assista. Kevin Hayes had two goals for Brampton, sixiges by Jeif Wilfong, Mike Murray and Chris Driscoil. Undera 17s lst in Mnra Whitby's under-17 boys' rep soccer team won the Brossard Challenge tournament in Montreal recently. Whitby had victories of 4-1, 4-1 and 7-1 to reach the semi-finals against the favoured home team, Brossard. After no scoring in regulation time, WItby won 4-3 on penalty icks to reach the final. Whitby won 2-1 over Lanaudliere in the final. Al -Whiltby backfield dominates The four Whitby running backs on the Hawkeye atom football team accounted for all the scoring in a season-opening 35-0 romp over Pickering Doîphins on Sunday. Jonathon Trendos scored on a - 50-yard touchdown run on the first play and later added another TD run. Jason Pottinger and David Norman each had runs of three yards for touchdowns and Pottinger had a 60-yard run to finish the scoring. Jorden Henry made several unassisted tackles while Normuan had two interceptions. WVhitby defeated St. Catharines 7-4, Toronto Beaches 11-6 and then suffered their only bas of the provincial qualiflers and finals to Peterborough, 7-6. This forced a semi-final againat Toronto Beaches and again Whitby outscored Beach 'ea 12-2, setting up the final against Peterborough. From* the opening whistle, Whitby won almost every.loose baIl, won most faceoifs and dominated play ta win 8-3. Scott Wylie was solid in net. Topping off the victory, coach Marty Gallas was named coach of the year after securing his fourth provincial. box lacrosse title as Whitby's head coach. Assistant captain Casey Dupont was selected ta the bantain ail-star team and was also named taurnament most valuable player. Port Perry's Mike Hamilton had eight goals and il assista, and was the leading scorer in the qualifiera and provincial finals. /Whitby's Dupont had six goals and il assista, whiîe Oshawa's Chris Thaler had eight goals and seven assista. Whitby'a Mike Morrision scored five goals and had six assista, Jeif Frazer had five goals and five assista, Jay Harrison two goals and eight assista, Scott Beegan three goals and five assista. Chiefs prevailed 7-3 in the firat gaine of the series on Aug. 10, bast the second gaine 8-4. in Peteroborugh on Aug. 12, then bounced back ta win 6-1 on Aug. 13. Stefanovic had Tigers' batters guessing in both Chiefs' victaries as he mixed bis powerful fastball with an awesome changeup. Pennis Maxwell continued his tarrid hitting'streak through all three gaines of the series. Aggressive base-running by Chris Janca and Dami Amurawaiye unnerved the Tigers' pitching staff. Jonatha Binder quarterbacked the reliable Chiefs' defence from bis catching position. Chiefs earned victaries over Kingston 5-2 and mercied Port Hope 11-0. In a controversial caîl by the home plate umpire, citing the contact rule, Chiefs forfeiteda gaine ta, Oshawa - a gaine in which Whitby was ahead 10-5. In the fifth inning of the gaine, with.Whitby in commnand and al player substitutions completed, the umpire called the contact rule - ejecting a Whitby player. As no players remained on the Whitby bench, Chiefs could not field a nine-man teain. Whitby lbat their second gaine of the tournaznent ta Ajax 8-6.
