Caîl 579- Tay1ort abstractions Student concert- in Oshawa 'Character Lines,' an exhibition of abstract, process-oriented paintings by artist*Ches Taylor, will open at the Robert Mcagln Gallery on Thursday, March 28. The paintings, executed in 1993 ad1994. corne under the general headlng of "geomnetrical abstraction." Taylor'. paintinge are full of carefully created white space that help the coloured areas to expand gently. The coloured areas are created by brushing areas of tape over paper then removing the tape. Taylor found bis initial inspiration as an artist at the McLaughlin gallery. In the early 1970s he worked as a gallery assistant, A graduate of Oshawa Central Collegiate Institute, Oshawa and the Ontario College of Art, Toronto, he bas served as chief of tecbnical services at the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa and manager of tecbnlcal services at the Art Gallery of Ontario ln Toronto. Taylor la now technical co- ordinator at the Art Gallery of Hamilton. The exhibition continues until May 19. Sixtes' (ûhawa shown An exhibition of ,bistoric photographe of early Oshawa, from the Thomas Bouckley Collection, wil open at the Robert :McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa on March 28. The sixties are remembered as the decade of change. Everything from fashion design to architecture reflected a desire to explore new ideas. During thia time the appearance of Oshawa changed dramatically as l9th century structures were razed to make room for multi- storeY office towers, including the new city hall. Bouckley (1904-1988) was born in Blackpool, England. He flrst became interested i collecting photographs of Oshawa after acquiring hie father'. collection. A graduate of the University of Toronto ini ceramic engineering, Bouckley authored three volumes- of photos and historical facts about Oshawa's past.
