ByGeorge Kaufan Ahoy! Iles always *good news when the good ship Gilbert and Sullivan bas been sighted. This year is the 125th anmiversary of the gifted pair's first theatrical collaboration, and it's bard to imagine our rich theatrical heritage without their contributions. So it's nice to welcome Wity Courthouse Theatre's version of their enorrnously popular Pirates of Penzanoe The cleverly goo1fr story, the witty lyrics and the unforgettable music combine on the WCT stage for an entertaining two hours of happy nonsense. The music is the thing, of course, anid itfs the wonderful voice of Carolyn Holdsworth that lifta this production, which literally comes to ful life when she first enters and sings the lovely ballad, Poor Wand'ring One. Daniel Wyse, as the gruif but soft-bearted Pirate King, and David Laing, as the duty-bound hero Frederic, also lend both solid solo voices and amusing comic acting abilities to the show. Dol Strangward handiles the Major-Generaps9 famous tongue-twisting role nicely. Artistic director Frank Knight and musical director Jamie Forsyth have also assembled a cast to perform the great ensemble singing to fine effect.
