WHITBY' Election 1980 Questionnaire CONT'D FROM PG. 16 D ickerson I do flot belleve this election to be premature. With the total lack of management ability and the con- stant about-faces, the Conservatives demonstrated their inability to govern let alone even act lîke they were in charge. Thank goodness it was only for seven months and flot seventeen. Fenneli The defeat of the gove'rnment over John Crosbie's budget was the resuit of a seif-centerd and irrespon- sible attitude displayed by the Liberals and NDP. As a result, the nation's business has been disrupted and we have been rushed into an election which is costly, unwanted and unnecessary. To determine whether Prime Minister Clark is wor- thy to govern one need only review our record in or- der to answer affirmatively. We promised to govern as a team. This we have done. The budget was a clear example of our commitment to responsible economie management and energy self-sufficiency by 1990. The Freedom of Information Bill demonstrates our commitment to an open, responsible Governmnent. Mortgage Interest and Property Tax Credit, Spouses Allowance Bill, Veteran's pension benefits, a bill to strengthen the accountability of Crown Cor- poration to the Government and Parliament, measures to toughen safety standards for transpor- tation of dangerous goods and Bank Act Amen- dnients are but a few bills that went before Parliament. Unfortunately, legislation was flot forthcoming because the Liberals and the NDP blocked almost every mneasure we brought to the House. In private they delayed. In public they criticized delay. Ail of this we wanted to do. Where is it now? Dead. Squelched by an Oppostion who expected us to correct their sixteen years of mistakes in 180 days. Posmo Libertarians are not pleased that the so-called old- line parties adopted the promise made by the Rhinocerous party that elections be held every 6 months. The Libertarian party, unlike some other parties, does not believe elections are fun, especially not when they cost tax payers $70,000,000 - plus. The choice before us in this election is a "stimulative deficit" range from $4 billion to $12 billion as proposed by the PC's, Liberals and NDP, the following roads will be closed for through struction of the Ash Creek Enclosure. Local du ring construction. DATE February 4th to February 22nd, 1980 January 3Oth to March l4th, 1980 respectively and the Libertarian proposai of $0 deficit as deficit spending would be illegal by act of parliament. Rison The election was not called prematurely. The threat to PetroCan, alone, was enough to warrant bringing down the government. The budget meant damage to the lower and middle income earners, who are already crippled by inflation. It is the responsibility of the Opposition to represent the people who voted for them. Together the New Democratic Party and the Liberals represent 64 per cent of the pollar vote, compared to the Conservatives 36 per cent.
