Drumm wants... Brooklin rep ort public By JOANNE ANDERSON Free Press Staff Councillor Joe Drumm (West Ward) said at Monday night's town council meeting that he wanted the staff report on the Brooklin development prograîn made public. Drummin said the tax payers have a right to see it. Coun. Barry Evans (Centre Ward) agreed with Drumm. "We (the council) have a duty to disclose absolutely everything on which we base pur opinions,"9 said Evans. Evans also said that it bas always been the pracice of the council ta make such documents public and that "if we have used titem in making a decision they must be made public." Coun. 30e Bugelli (West Ward) said he was concerned about the fine line between personal and professional opinion on te maLter by the staff. Bugelli said he does not want to put any individual "«on the spot." Coun. Bob Carson (North Ward) agreed with Bugelli that thte contents of the report may contain personal opinions as well as professional opinions as the report was to be held as confidential. Mayor Jim Gartshore said tat te report shold flot be released until after the Brooklin problem has been solved but that he has no objections that it be released after the problem is solved. Coun.. Gerry Emm requested titat Mayor Gartshore tell cowicil what has been planned to celebrate Whitby's 125th birthday. Gartshore said that nothing has been confirmed but several things are being looked into. It is possible that the temes of both, the county Town Carnival and thte Broakiin Fair will incorporate Whitby's birthday said Gartshore. Gartshore said that he has spoken to three service clubs in Whitby about having them create a float for the County Town Carnival outlining this theme. The maLter of a pedestrian guardrail an the Brock Street C.N.R. overpass bas been tabled until te next regular meeting of the Operations Committee. The Director of Public Works reported te the Operations Committee that additional wood curbs have been placed on tite bridge and he would be reporting further on titis. Thte committee bas been informed titat the overpass is ten- tatively scheduled for reconstruction in 1984. Coundil approved te request for higiter fares that was made by both Circle and Bell and Bowman taxi com- paziies. Taxi fares are now up to $1.20 drop and 10 cents for every one-nintit 0f a mile. The mis-interpretation stemmed from one coun- ciilor's desire te see the fare increase tabled until Marcit, 1980.
