Canadian Forces ships, aircraft and approximately 1,000 personnel of the west coast, along with forces from Australia, New Zeaiand, Japan and the United States, will par- ticipate in a major multi-national fleet exercise invoiving the "Rim of the Pacifie" nations. Tluerd Whitby scout report On Saturday, February 23, 1980, Third Whitby Scouts, Cubs and Beavers held their annual Father and Son Banquet. The boys and their guesta enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner prepared by the Ladies' Auxiliary and served by memnbers of the Ninth Whitby Girl Guides. Aînong the guests were Rev. J. Roney of AMl Saints' Chur- ch, Don Calder, A.D.C. Scouts, and Roy Parker, A.D.C. Cubs. Presentations were made to Sandy Carke, Donna Dewdney and Ber- nice Waldeck, who have retired as Beaver Leaders effective June 1980, and who were founding rnembers of the Third Whitby Beaver Colony. Two presentations were made to Rev. Roney - a plaque commemnorating the many years of sponsorship by Ail Saints' Church, and a wooden doîl carrnage made by Scouter Kari Hoos to be used in the nursery. Mfter the dinner and presentations, the boys and their fathers and guests were entertained by the Beavers with square dan- cing and songs, by the Cubs with a skit and closing prayer, and by the Scouts with a skit. "Hardini" the Magician then entertained with some exciting magic tnicks, to the delight of the boys. On Sunday, February 24, 1980, Third Whitby Scouts, Cubs and Beavers heid their annual Church Parade, in conjunction with the Ninth Whitby Guides and First Whitby Brownies. The Cub David Mitchell was presen. ted with Religion in Life Badge, first stage. Guests of Third Whitby were First Whitby Scouts. It ranks as one of the highiights of the schooi year. Fourteen contestants, two selected from each area af- ter a series of preliminary contests, spoke on subjects of their own choice. Topics indicated widely-ranging in- terests and inciuded everything from Broken A-is and Imaginatîon to the Undersea World of Tornorrow. The winner, H-eather Millburn of West Lyiide Public School in Ambulance cails During the week that en- ded on Friday, March 7, Whitby Town Ambulance responded to 89 caîls for ser- vice. 0f these, 37 were of a routine nature and 30 were standby caîls for ambulance services in Oshawa and Ajax, Whitby Ambulance also responded to 22 emergency calis, however, none of themn were inotor vehicle acciden- ts. Whitby, spoke Most engagingly on the topic of Names. Marijana Sabiijic of Lake Vista in Oshawa took second place with an ex- cellent talk on Comrnerciais. Other contestants were: Graig Paisley of Cartwright Centrai Public Sehool; Joanne de Vries of Thorah Centrai; Mark Postili, Sun- set Heights; Ron Carnwith, Centrai Park; Cindy Weldon, T.R.
