A familiar expression to swimmers and supporters of the Whitby Iroquois Swim Club. Nine year old Chris Donnelly of WISC again gave an outstanding per- formance in competition at the Central Region Long Course Championships at York on June 14-15. Swimmning in boys 10 and under Donnelly knocked 15 seconds from his best time in 200 metre individual medley event to capture a silver mnedal, and also collected four bronze medals in 100 metre freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and 50 metre butterfly. Denis Vandoleweerd in 11/12 girls' turned in a strong performance to win a silver medal in 50onietre but- terfly. These WISC swimnmers along with several others were competing for the first tume in a 5o metre pool, with close to 500 participants from 16 clubs throughout Ontario. Donnelly was one of six swimmers representing WISC at the Ajax Homwe Week Meet June 22. Swimn- ming in 12/u boys' events in order to improve his times for the Ontario Provincial Age Group Championsbips in JuIy, fine year old Don- nelly took a silver medal in 100 mnetre butterfly and won two bronze in 100 metre breastroke and 200 metre individual medley events. This is the first time the three year old WISC club will be sending a swimmer to the Age Group Champion- ships, were Donnelly will be swimming in four events, 50 metre freestyle, 100 breast and fly, and 200 Individual Medley. He now ranks among the fastest 10 and un- der boys in Canada. Tammy O;,, ttes was out- standing at the Ajax meet in 11/12 girls' events, collec- ting five individual medals, tow gold for 100 metre beast and fly, two silver for 100 metre free and 200 I.M. and a bronze in 100 rnetre back. Oattess added an additional two silver medals for 11/12 girls 200 medley and freestyle relay events, along witb teammates Tammy Clarke, Danielle Cliche and Melissa Peacock. Qattes is one of several WISC swimmers accepted for a specialized swimmers' training clinic being beld at the University of Toronto all of next week. Yashin Blake turned in a strong performance to win four medals in 14/u e>ys' events. Blake took a Silver for 100 metre backstroke, and three bronze in 100 free, 100Ofly and 200 IM. Danielle Cliche in 10/u girls placed seventh in 100 fly and eigbt in 100 back, while Tammy Clarke in girls 11/12 was sixth in 200 I.M. and seventh in 100 free and backstroke. The six WISC swimmers scored high to take fourth place in the competition with a bost of participants from five other clubs. Coach Tom McLaughlln is presently readying WISC team members for an Inter- national Invitatiollal meet in London in july and a proposed meet wîth Longueuil, Quebec duriflg Whitby's County Town Car- nival. Legionairres win 7 out of 8games The Legionaires continue to hold a bot hand winning 7 games of eight in League play. The latest wins were posted on June 16 against Cobourg B team by a score of 21 -2. Jeff Huges received the victory for Whitby and lst star selec- tion for pitcbing a strong game, as well as supplying the batting, power with 3 home runs. Doug Mc- Corkell, Brian York and Scott Thtton also came tbrougb witb several big bits. Kiwanits dump Fishé On Monday, June 16, the Kiwanis Club beat Fisher Refridge 16 to 8 at Iroquis Park. Kim Reinhardt & Cindy Jimons of Kiwanis Club each had a home run. Elizabeth Bonner of Fisber Refridge had a borne run also. The pitcher for Kiwanis was Cindy Jimmo. For Fisher Jackie Raez & Bonnie Puckrin shared the pitching. Kim Reinhardt of the Kiwanis was hurt in the third inning as she slided home-she will not be able to play for the next two or three weeks. Other games played were: Lions Club 25, Kins.-nan Club 13, B.P. Car Wash 31, Midway Datsun 13, Henry Buildal 2.3, Rotary Club 20. l7toO victory Whitby Legion Pee Wee Ail1 Stars played their first gamne of the season on June 5 at Peel Park against Bowmanville and scored lopsided victory. There neyer appeaïred inuch question as to what the resuits would be as three Whitby pitchers went through six innings not allowing any Bowmanville bits. Witb runners on base repeatedly being belped by timely hits or, in the absence of hits, Bowrnanville en-ors, allowed many home team runners to score. The final outcome was Whitby 17, Bowmanville 0.
