PAGE 7 Ladi*es Great Ride raieses;'$7,OOO By MARION IRWIN The 1980 Kiwanis Club's Ladies Great Ride for Can-, cer on Saturday, May 3 was .it.s moet successful ride of the three they've held so far. This year the ride was open to not only ladies but their friends and faiies as weil. Not ail pleges have been collected yet, but when they are the total monles realized should be aobut $7,000. Ail riders are urged to put forth a special effort to get their money in before they become too involved in their summer activîties. 0f the 115 riders, 31 represented seven local banks and trust companies. The seven branches who accepted the club's challenge to ride produced $3,500 0f the total raised. The bank raising the largest amount was to be treated to lunch. On Wednesday, June 4, the twenty staff members from the Royal Bank on Brock Street South went to lunch at the home of Marg Horton and Kay Hare. A sumnptuous Durham Regional Council has selected a committee of il people to select the suc- cessor to Chief Ad- ministrative Officer Bob Richardson. Richardson resigned from his $47,000 a year position to accept a similiar post with Waterloo Region at a salary Brooklln Business Association The Brooklin Business Association is holding their lst An- nual Sidewalk Sale on Friday, June 4 from 12 noon till dusk. Brooklin Spring Fair The winners for the exhibits entered at the spring fair were as follows: Highest girl - Brenda Lawson, Brooklin Highest Boy - Jim Piper, Oshawa }ighest Woman - Mrs. Gert Sheefer, Brooklin A prize of $500 was donated to each winner by the Brooklin Women's Institute. Boy Scouts On the weekend of June 2th, the Whitby District Bay Scouts held an annual composite camp at Camp Batty in Brooklin. the winning troop for the third year in a row was the 2nd Brooklin Bay Scouts. The members of the patrol were Michael Siciliano, Danny Forbes, Kevin O'NIELL AND) John Andrew. The eight riders from the'Royal Bank had raised $1,223 to win the prize both for largest number of riders and the largest amount of money. running a close second was the Bank of Nova Scotia with $1,010. Six Scotia riders decked out in gay red and white shorts and tops made a colourful addtion to the ride. Added incentive for this group was provided by manager, Tom Dodge who went along too. Dodge had chailenged the Bank of Mon- treal manager, Joe Sharpe, to ride thereby creating some fun and spirit.. On Thursday, June 26 at the last meeting of the Kiwanis Club before the summer months, Club president Tome Wilcox presented the seven banks with certificates of ap- preciation for their par- ticipation in the ride. As well, rider Carol George was aWarded a ten speed bike donated by Lasco for having turned in the of over $50,00 At its meeting last week, council accepted Richar- dson's July 31 resignation "with regret." The interviewing of can- didates will be done by the members of the management committee and the chairman of regional council's four other standing committees. Applicants will be inter- viewed by a committee composed of Regional Chairman Walter Beath, Whitby Mayor Jim Gar- tshore who is vice-chairman of the management com- mittee as well as committee members Ed Kolodzie, John McLaughlin, Margaret Shaw (alI from Oshawa) and Brock Township Mayor Alan McPhail.
