There are two fewer models than at the end of the 1980 model year. Cancelled are the Cutlass Salon and Cutlass Salon Broughamn coupes. Omega The compact Omega is available in four models with four special styling options. The 1981 models carry over many of the popular styling features of last year's Omega and incorporate new grille and tail lamp design. Special appearance options on the 1981 Omega include the SX, Sport Omega, ES 2500 and ES 2800. Cutlass Eight models are available in the 1981 Cutlass series încluding Cutlass sedan, Cutlass Supreme coupe, Cutlass LS sedan, Cutlass Supremne Brougham coupe, Cutlass BroughamI sedan. Cutlass Calais, Cutlass Cruiser and Cu tlass Cruiser Brough&m. The Cutlass Supreme has all-new styling and improved aerodynamics. - The soft fascia front end extends to the bumper rub strip. The dlean line of the front enid panel is uninterrupted by the swing-away grille and dual headlamps. Park and turn lamps are located in the lower bumper. From the side, the 1981 Cutlass Supreme takes on a dlean, tapered design, with a lowered front end and slightly higher deck lid. The side feature line is softened and carnes the length of the body with a flush-mounted quarter. window providing up-to-the-minute styling. Wheel opening mouldings draw attention to-the wheels. The rear end panel wraps down to provide a soft covering for the upper bumper with a chrome lower bar. The tail .lamps wrap up and over for distinctive Oldsmobile identification. The '1981 Cutlass Cruiser and Cutlass sedan share a new grille and the Cutlass LS sedan, Cutlass Brougham sedan and Cutlass Cruiser Brougham get specific grille and new dual headlamps with park and turn lanips in the bumpers. Eighty-Elght There are six Eighty-Eight models for 1981. Coupes and sedans are available in the Eighty-Eight, Royale or Royale Brougham series. A new rectangular segmented grille highlights the front end treatmnent with Custom Cruiser station wagons sharing the saine look. Ninety-Eight Three models, the Luxury sedan, Regency coupe and Regency sedan, are available in the Ninety-Eight series. The new grille bas six major sections per side with a recessed eggcrate design. Al full-size car styling incorporates the aero- dynamic know-how started last year. The front end is low to cut through the air and the rear styling features- a small deck lid spoiler to break the air's movement and cut turbulence. Toronado The 1981 Toronado is available in one model, the Brougham coupe. A sporty XSC optionis offered. Stying is carried over for 1981 . The powerful front end features a streainine grille that extends across the entire front of the car. Park and turn lamps are hidden behind the grille and below the dual rectangular headlamps. in the rear, long h.orizontal tail lamps and backup lamps extend from the edge of the deck lid to thelicence plate pocket. 1981 Oldsmoblle Omega ES 1981 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais Lhter-Weight Cars Meanu More Fuel Efciency OSHAWA, Ont.-The average 1981 Oldsmobile bas a shipping weight of 1451 kg (3,200 pounds), about 19 percent less than five years ago. This 272 kg (600-pound) reduction bas been achieved by usage of lighter-weight materials and the redesigning of cars during the past ive years. A composite 1981 Olds- mobile has about 90 kg (200 pounds) of plastics, 59 kg (130 pounds) of aluminum, 862 kg (1,900 pounds) of steel and 233 kg- (515 pounds) of cast iron. Other materials make up the additional 206 Oldsmobile will introduce reinforced reaction injection moulded fenders on the Sport Omega. This is the first time a car company bas used the material to build production parts. The fenders are formed from two resins. ..polyol and isocyanate .. . reinforced with milled fiberglass. The fenders are painted mith flexible acrylic enamel, the saine paint used on the urethane bumper fillers and soft fascia of other cars. These fenders save about 5 kg (10 pounds) of weight over a comparable steel fender and have the additional advantages of flexing back after minor impacts and not corroding. -Another light-weight material usage is also on the Sport Omega - soft fascia on the front and rear sty.ing. New styling on Cutlass Supreme coupes dictated the use of soft fascia covering for front and rear bumpers. Alumninumn continues to be used for the intake manifold on some 5.0-litre gasoline- powered Oldsmobiles.
