PALjE 20, WLINESDAY, ocToBER i. 1980, WHITBY FREE PRESS Hlealth council cails meetmg on Ruddy's fate Tommy Edwards, Acting Chairman of the Durham Region District Health Council announced today the council's decision to hold public meetings in each hospital centre-in the region. The district health council received a report in June fromn consultants Peat Mar- wick and Company which recommended major changes in the delivery of hospital services. Since that time the council's executive committee chaired, by Ed- wards, bas been meeting ith each hospital board to discuss.their response to the report. one recommendation in the report, that the Dr. J.O. basis for the redeveloped Whitby Psychiatrie Hospital, has already been turned down by Ontario Health M.ister Dennis Timbreil. The Dr. J.O. Rud- dy board is currently developing a counter proposai for a rehabilitation unit on its second floor to meet the increased needs for chronic care and rehabilitation in the Oshawa/Whitby area. "The decision to hold public meetings was made by the council at the request of the hospitals last spring" said Edwards. "The first meeting wiil be held. in Whitby at the municipal building on Wed- nesday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m." he continued. "IWe have received a lot of letters from residents of Whitby speaking against the con- sultants recommendations, but we haven't heard much from the town .yet on how they see their local hospital now and five years down the road. ' The meeting is open to anyone interested. The con- sultant's report is available for review at the hospital and at the local library. «"I hope that we will have a good turnout"' said Edwar- ds.
