"'Af ter a very lengthy and serlous debate with myseif, 1 have finally decided not to seek re-election for another term as a memember of the Durham Board of Education representing Whitby," Speers said. 111 have enjoyed being a board member and have done my best to represent the people of Whitby, ser- ving on various committees and in many different capacities. " Speers, who bas been a trustee for four years, said that will not be seeking re- election in order to devote more time to other projeets. "I have found the work as a board member rewarding, but time consuming," he said adding, "Mfter having served for four years, I have decided that I would like to devote some of the years of retirement to other interests and activities that, of necessity, I have had to negleet." Speers said that he bas nothing but praise for fellow board members and staff. "lIt bas been a pleasure to work witb so many public spirited and. dedicated members of the board who have done so mucb in the best interest of education for the young people of Durham Region. "I would also like to ex- press my appreciation to the director and the ad- ministrative staff for sucb a tremendous job well done. We, in Durham Region, are certainly well served by such progressive and dedicated people."
