- Notes
- This building was built in 1959-60 and officially opened on November 4, 1960 by William K. Warrender, Ontario's Minister of Municipal Affairs. It was partially vacated by the Town of Whitby in 1973 and the upper floor was used by the Whitby Public Library. The Library took over the entire building in 1977 when the new Municipal Office was opened at 575 Rossland Road East. The building was demolished in the summer of 2005 and the site is now the Celebration Square in front of the new Library which opened in May, 2005.
The portraits of the Prime Ministers on the front of the building were painted by two Henry Street High School students, Ruth Read and Rebecca Ryland for Canada's Centennial in 1967. The portrait of Pierre Trudeau was added in 1968. - Date of Original
