SPORTNEWS CHURCH LEAGUE HOCKEY Exeiting Game Between Tighe and Martin Ended 2-1 in Overtime (By LAC "Bilt" Hutchunson) In the first Church League Hockey game Saturday morning at the Public Schooi rink, Rundle's team de!eated Catcan's braves 7-0 in a hand-fought battle. Ca- tran and Stutt played a good game but could not keep up to that fast, scoring pair o! Perfect and Lemon, who showed their ability by net-. ting 6 goals between them, Stur- rock scoring the 7th. The linc-ups: For Catran - Hamilton, Stutt and Catran, forwards; Rehdec and Lunney, defense; F. Hooper, goal. For Rundlc - Perfect, Lemon and Sturrock, forwards; Lobb and Moffat, defense; Rundie, goal. In the second gaine Bud Hooper defeated Cowle 6-3 in another good encounter. The excellent team work o! F. Hooper and Stur- rock- rewarded thein with a total o! 5 goals, while the good efforts o! Dustan netted him one goal. On the other team, the hard-hit- ting line of Levitt, Dadson and Donnahue scored 2 goals and Lux- ton scored the third. The line-ups: For Hooper-Sturrock, F. Hoop- er and Dustan, !orwards; Knight and D. Stutt, defense; Bud Hooper, goal. For Cowle - Levitt, Dadson and Donnahue, forwards; Joncs and Joncs, suh. The outcome o! the third and most exciting gaine hung in the balance with the score 1-1 until Stevens !lipped one in a!ter two and a hlai minutes o! overtime. The final score, Martin 2, Tighe 1, was more or less a surprise as the Tighe-Dustan-Wacd line seemed to have the edge on the Marti n- Childs-Stevens line. As indicated by the score, the defense was good; Dustan and Martin got the other two goals. The line-ups. For Tiglie-Dustan, Tiglie and Wacd, forwacds; Wilcox and Pat- terson, defense; Rowe, goal. Foc Martin - Martin, Childs and Steven% forwards; Lcvitt and Moffat, definse; Cowle, goal. A CORRECTION In a list sent out by a govecn- ment officiai which was printcd in this paper giving the members o! the Local Ration Boacd, the name o! Mrs. James D. Hogarth, Hampton, appeared. The name shouid have been Mc. James D. Hogarth. Complaints fromn Dar- lington shouid be given to Mr. *Hogarth, not to his wife. "WE DO NOT ADVERTISE" Some cetailers say whcn they are canvassed by us, "Wc do not advcctisc". This is pretty much the same as saying, "Wc do flot believe in giv- ing out information about what we have to sel. Wc do not believe in inviting the public to do business at our store." Men who say, "We do flot advertise," have a vccy wrong undecstanding o! the purpose o! advertising. Advectising is not public boasting. It is just the spccading o! information about goods and services and prices among these whose customn is wanted. A cetailer who refuses to advcctise could, for identical ceasons, refuse to display his mecch- andise in his store windows, or to light up bis store when dayiight begins to fade way, or to give information about his goods to those who enter his store to buy and who ask questions. The inescapabie fact is that the public goca in lacgcst numbers whecc it is invitcd to go-to those stores which give it information, publicity, in the focm of advectisements in newspapers. People * follow the guidance o! information. They plan in their homes and they go to those stores which give thein the kind o! information both wanted and needed. Non-advcctisecs starve their business. A cetail- ec's silence costs hum fac more than does space in our newspapec which is read thocoughly evecy wcck by an cstimated audience o! over 12,000 prospective customers.
