Boat Replaces Skaters On Va nstone Pond The unusually mild weather bas fonced skaters 'ta fonego their customany Christmas skat- ing on Vanstone's pond. About two weeks ago the pond had an excellent sheet of ice some seven or eight inches thick but the rising tmea tune bas cleared the pond of ice. Mill workers even used a boat on the pond to dlean de- bris that had gathered. Water was also ising on the creek over the holiday and it was necessary to release one- third o! the locks at Vanstone's dam. Mlthough high, this does not constitute a flood as the danger point is reached when it becomes necessary to release one-half to two-thirds of the locks. However a close check is continuing to be made on the water. Lovely Toys M/on in Draw Three families were the lucky recipients o! beautiful draw pnizes from McNulty's Sports, Cycle & Toy Store. Editon's Note: The Statzsman is indebted ta the Manitoba Com- mittee on Alcohol Education for complying with aur request for the above mat of the advertisement which we are glad to insert free as a publie service ta the people of our community. This is one of a series of adyts. prepared by the Manitoba Com- mittee. ln aur opinion it is the finest and mast effective educational senies on the growing problem of alcohol we have seen. The advts. are practical and sane, and nat extreme as some temperance advocates denounce the liquor question. We hope by giving publicity at this particular holiday time ta this prablem, which is affecting sa many individuals and their families, it may be the means of arousing a delegation ta wait on aur Provincial Govern- ment ta urge a similar educational campaign in Ontario. In aur humble opinion such a movement would be more in the interest of the welfare of aur citizens than to throw wide open the flood gates of liquor and beer advertising which is, insistently being promoted these days by certain groups who are apparently more interested in profits than in the welfare o! aur citizens. Your comments on this subject would be appreciated.-G.W.J. ___________________ Last Minute Buyer Us Lucky Draw Winner Wellington St., was the sur- prised winnen o! the, beautifulI bridesmaid doîl in the dnaw at Osbarne's Sports Store.
