Blacksfock - Millbrook At Track., FieId Meef Friday Friday was a great day at the l'air Grounds in Blackstock when students from Orono, Millbrook and Cartwright High Schools engagd ln thei.r second annual Tri-School track and field meet. The event this y-car wai de-1 layed somewhat due ta mc- ment weather. but when the points were counted at the end of the day. Orono's entries learned that their achool had won the coveted champianship with 1801/2 points. Blackstock was second with 163 and Mill- brook trailed with 971/ points. Indlividual charnpionships were won by: Junior Girls-.-Bernice Larmer, Biackstock, with 13 Sonts; Intermediate Girls - aorma Earle, Milibroak. il points; Senior Girls _' Helen Wright, Millbrook, 19 points: Junior Boys-Rager Barlow and Terry Carleton, both af Orono, 16 points; Intermediate Boys- Wayne Bailey, Orono, 23 points; Senior Boys-jGlenn Eance, Mill- brook, 16 points. Shatter Records Records were shattered in every class. In the junior girls high jump, Mary Reid af Orono broke the aid record by one inch, jumping 4 feet 1 inch. Don Danchuk. Orono, broke, the Jun- ior boys high jurnp by anc-inch jumping 4 feet 6 inches. Roger Barlow, Orana broke the Junior boys 220 yd. dash with a run af 26.4 seconde. The aid record was 27.7 seconds. Don Danchuk aiso broke the Junior boys runningi broad jump, jumping 15 ft. 9 in., breaking the aid record of 14 feet 41/2 inches. Terry Car- 1lcon of Orono broke-the junior boys pale vauit by 17 luches jumping 8 feet. Rager Barlow broke the junior boys hop, stcp and jump with a jump of 33 feet 4- inches. The old record was 32 feet. The intermediate girls bal [throw record was broken by Carol Kozub af Blackstock with a throw af 127 feet. The oid re- cord was. 123 feet 6 inches. Jane Ouelette- of Millbrook--broke thie high jump record with a jump of 3 Icet il inches breaking the aid record by 1 inch. Hea- ther Rutherford broke the run- ning broad jump record with a jump of 12 feet 1 11/ inches. The aid record was 12 feet. In the intermediate boys class, Wayne Bailey brake the. 100 yd dash with 10.4 seconds, cutting 4 seconds off the aid record. He also brake the hop, step and jump with a jump of 36 feet 2 inches breakinx the ald record of 35 feet 3 inches, and the pale vault with a jumap of 8 feet 10 inches. The old re- cord was 8 feet. Clem Wilson of Blackstock broke the 220 yard dash with 26 seconds cutting .8 seconds off the old record. Lar- ry Ashton broke the discus re- cord with 97 feet 21/ inches. The old record was 82 fest 9 inches. One Record Broken In the senior girls only ane record was broken, the 100 yard dash. This was broken by Helen Wright of Millbrook with 12.6 seconds. The old record was 13.6 seconds. [n the senior boys class, Alan Asselstine, of Blackstock broke the 880 yard dash with 2 min- utes 13.4 seconds. The old re- cord was 2 minutes 31.2 seconds. Ardis McArthur of Blackstock broke the 100 yard dash with a run af 10.5 seconds. The old re- cord Was 11.1 seconds. The meet was termed as a successful one, and many more of these trl-school track and field meets are anticipated in the years ta corne by the schoal officials.
