PAGZTWELE -TWI A IADIA sTAE~M1q. OWMMV1L~ fMnA TrURSDAY. DEC. 18th, 1958 s SOR0p1g:s'1 P~ y Frank Mohun MA 3-7234 ab f4 MOORE - DURELLE Anyone who watched Wednesday night's fight, must certain]y agree that it xvas one of. if flot tl* best fight ever seen on TV. Undoubtedly, it should also be agreed that Durelle lost! his chance to capture the world's light-heavvweight title in_ thel opening round. Perhaps the challenger was amazed to see "Age- less Archie" survive ail three knockdowns, or perhaps he figured that a boxer of Moore's age (whatever it may be), had finally reached the end of the road. Whatever it ws there's littie doubt that had Durelle pressed his advantage in the same manner as Moore did in the eleventh, Canada would have had a light- 4 eavyweight champion. B. O. C.'s After winning their first two games and then dropping the next two, the Bowmanville-Orono Combines have put together a' six-game unbeaten streak, including five wins and a tie. The "Il points out of a possible dozen. have put the B.O.C.'s xithin a single point of league-leading Napanee, with a game in hand. Earlier in the season, we rapped the Combines' defence, %vhile finding no fault with the forward lines. However. dtiring the six-gamne streak goalie Ross Hawe and a rejuvenated defence corps have played a large part in the B.O.C.'s success. Hiaie has tlaken over as the league's top goaltender. with an avcrage of 3:50 goals against per garme. Part of the answer is to he found in the iniproved play o! the dlefence. In the last tva,- games. the locals permitted a total of anly three goals, twvo coming when the Combines were short-handed. Just how much the rearguard has improved xill be given a tough test this Saturday night. when the Ontario Champion Napanee Club xil tangie with the B.O.C.'s-, with first p!ace at stake. t t t t. Don Masters, playing in the Town Hockey, League. and the Goodyear League, came up with the most prolifir scoring display' of Bowmanville's hockey season, last week. Thursday nightý Don fired five goals in the third period and picked up an earlierl assist as Brooks Constrnuction claimed a 7-5 victoty. Sundayý j~~afternoon, the veteran right-winger scored three times and assist- [~ed on the other goal, in a 4-4 tie. The big defender has played a major part in the B.O.C. 's undefeated streak, breaking up rushes with his nifty poke-check, and doing a fine job of lugging the puck out of his own end. In the two games on which this wveek's choice \vas made, "Mýiickey" w as on the ice for only one goal against, that one with the Combines playing short- handed.
