PAGE TW~VE THE CAKADIAN STATESMMi, EOWMAIrVTLLE, O!~TAMO TRURSDAY, MAR. math. 1061 I ~SPORTopICSý! ~. By Frank Mohun MA 3-7234 B. 0. C.'s Let's admi!t It. After the Bowmanvllle-Orono Combines suffered an urideserved 7-5 setback here Wednesday night, who thought they would be playing back here again this season? Not this reporter. A couple of weeks back we called the B.O.C.'s to win in six, figuring they would win ail three at home, while winning Saturday in Napanee. Well we won Saturday, but faliowing the heart-breaking defeat in our second home game, I had thought that the players just would.n't have. it. This corner had predicted a Combines' series wiri ail aiang, but we did point out that Napanee would take the seventh if it went that far. You might say what about the sixth? By the time this is being read, the locals should have won that one to even up the series, but despite their indomitable team spirit, we can't see the B.O.C.'s coming back to take three straight. Not! against Napanee, anyway. Win or lose, the players certainly have given everything they had. MIDGETS Te Lions Mîdgets joined the Legionnaire Juveniles, as the second EowmraîviIie îeam to reach the Ontario Finals, when they handed Clliiiwocd a convincing 11-4 setback, Saturday night, to ti~ the total goal semi-final series 21-11. 1c vn:: il w'llmeet the winner between St. Thomnasi and Stamf.,crc3. but no dates can be ennounced as yet, because both1 th2s-ý tems ~pn to-night. Whenï 7 you consider that there were three excellent games î-jr to choose from last week, the fans might well realize what a tough job it was. Art Rennick was finally given the nod, as the winner of the Bowmanville Surplus Store's Award, which means that the starry centre had to be outstand. ing in order to beat out his hard-working team-mates. Art f ired two'goals and picked up an assist to lead a belated come-back last Monday and was held off the scoresheet in the next game, before bagging a goal Saturday night. Nevertheless it wasn't the points that gave Rennick the win, as several other players had just as many. Art Rennick has set a sizzling pace in the play- offs as the cêntre man for the club's hottest line. But it has also been in the back-checking department where Rennick has been good, ail the more important against Napanee. Honourable mention goes to Dean West, Gerry Robinson, Syd Arnold and Ted DeGray. lect- .
