cow FAILS TO UPSET DAIRY P.RINCESS There were a fewv anxious moments during the Dairy Princess Contest in Newcastle's Arena last Friday evening. The cow at right in this photo wasn't for having any part of the milking machine that had been supplied. Apparently, at her home, they use a different brand, so she insisted on kicking it off. But, Durham's new Dairy Princess Donna McLaughlin was rot bo be denied in her efforts and she received an assist fromn some of the officiais who realized the situation was flot because of anything she was doing wrong. Many have heard of having a "tiger by the tail" but this photc shows that grabbing a Holstein by the tail is one wav of applyinf a tranquilizer. The 'contestants, from left to right, are Margare Coombes, last year's Princess, Barbara Lee, Margaret Shackletor with a cow that wotild only milk from the lef t side and, bent over, Miss McLaughlin. An estimated 500 spectators enjoyed the event. mntdemu VOLUME 111 14 Pages )3OWMANVILLE, ONTARIO, WEDNESDAY, JULY 21, 1965. 1lOc Per Copy NUMEER 29 Blood Clinic Town Council Decides to Apply Here August 4 The August Blood Donor F rC n e n n Clinie sponsored by thefo $2O,OOO C nt nna Grant Bawmanville and District Red Cross Branch ivili alzain be open at the li ons Coin munlty Centre, Wednesday T u n s NeL* r yB fl Ontario_ Prncs Eli.n,>vtjj LrIUW1UIiI Insal Nw Otier IBOwmTanville Town Couincil at the meeting held1-XI Inree Advice!ers ---- I ithe Town Hall on Tuesday afternoon dec oId Frwe Accident RoundU Free Advice. unanimously to apply for a Centennial grant oHod Frw l DwjI f-,.. ~furnish the new Bowmanville Public Library, Wh'ch' Lions C om plete P l'ans f'or Fre Iickets!is now being built in the Museum grounds. Pretty discouraging and costiy for retailers wha are trying ta provide service. Parents <if children in the area are requested ta warn their youngsters against such destruction. MADDENING In the same x'ein, Wilfrid Car- i-uthers, former Mayar <of Bownianville and son Bob, spent an entire day baling hay on his prop- erty south of the CNR tracks, only ta find the ropes on about 100 bales cut the next morning. The bales were knocked dawn and strewn all over the place, se another full day had ta be spent repairing the maliciaus damage. Parents in that area might aiso be well advised ta interrogate their offspring about the matter. LACROSSE Next Wednesdav evening, start- ing at 6:30, there will be a Junior Lacrosse Tour- nament at Franklin Park. This should be quite an event with same good teams taking part. If you haven't been able to see anv games s0 far this year, this would be an excellent opportunity ta sec Canada's national game as it should be played. *1- * i. + *t SCHOOL - Another excellent and entertaining feature now in progress is the Dick Gamble Hockey School that opened this week at Mem- criai Arena. About 45 littie guys are here this week, taking instruction and learning the fine points oif the game. In succeeding weeks, eider players wiil attend. Spectatorsecan see the action either mornings or afternoons. We aiso extend a welcome to the many parents who have accom- panied their boys ta Bowmanvilie and hope they enjoy themseives. The youthful hockey players are being housed and fed at Erinli Golf Course. J. t t TELEVISION - The youngsters from Simcoe Hall Crippled Chiidren School and Treatment Centre wili appear an CFTO channel 9 television Thursday morning at 11:15 a'clock.
