BITS PIECES COMING CLOSE - Believe it or not, but Christmas Day will be here two weeks from Thursday. Doesn't seem possible, but it's too true. Bowmanville mer- chants are opening evenings for the balance of the period to take care of your gif t needs. Incidentally, The Statesman office staff has been extremely busy receiving and processing the many subscription renewals that have been coming in. We don't like to brag, but many folks are giving subseriptions for Christmas gifts and they do seem to be appreciated. You can't get a much better bargain for only $6 and it lasts for 52 weeks. t t t t PUBLICATION - For the benef it of subscribers, advertisers and correspondents, The Statesman_ will be published Tuesday instead of Wednesday during Christmas and New Year's week. The business office will be closed on the Friday f ollowing both Christmas and New Year's. Sub- scribers in this area should receive their Christ- mas Greeting Statesman on Wednesday, Dec. 24tb. Individuals or business establishments plan- ning to publish 'Christmas Greeting advertise- ments should contact this office as soon as possible. t i. t '*t . ELECTION - Some of the election posters that were tacked up onl telephone and hydro poles during the municipal election are stili there. It is suggested that those who placed them on the poles would be well advised to remove them as soon as possible as they can be a hazard for linemen climbing the poles. t t + 1 t FINAL - Next-Monday will be the last meeting of the 1969 town council, with the new group taking over for their inaugural meeting.on Jan- uary 5th. It would be a nice gesture if a large representation of citizens showed up for that meeting to wish the new members of council welI. Also, to thiose who were on council, but were defeated at the polis, the community's thanks should be extended for their past service and their interest in municipal affairs. A neigh- boring newspaper ran a story this week on their reactions and plans for the future, but we bave refrained from similar action because if our memory serves us well, it's too close to the election to obtain an accurate assessment. Most of those defeated must stili be smarting a bit from the resuits. PLAYS - Two plays are being presented by Bow- manville High Schobl students on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week in the Town. Hall. Directors are Bob Sheridan and Mrs. John Rundie. They are recommended entertainment for ail citizens who will be amazed at the fine performances given by these young people. t t t 1f t BANKS - Practically every store in town is prettied up with Christmas decorations but the three banks must be given special mention for the gala appearance they present to their cus.- tomers; they've gone ail out to present a warm, colorful picture that impressed us, and probab- ly many others. You almost expect the managers to start singing 'Joy to the World' while granting an interest f ree boan, without collateral. - - Lie Èn rozen .North Where 1(5 0SBeow Mr. and Mrs. John Stacey, John Stacey flew home to and ohildren, Mièhelle, Ver-:Maltan airpirt on Deceimber non and Heather, Scarbor- 3rd, from 'a- four-montlis' ough, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronworking period in the Cana- Turner, Kingston, visited their, dian Arctie.
