SHOWS FILMS - Mr. Siebe Rekker of Port Perry, a member of the Oshawa Camera Club, entertained members of the Orono Horticultural Society recently with slides of birds, goldfinch, cedar waxwing, ovenbird, cuckoo, tern to name a few of the species and their nests and scenes of nature. Mr. Rekker derives a great pleasure from exhibiting slides in international competition and over the years has won many trophies. MOLSON CUP - is the name of the new award for members of the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club. It will be presented at the end of the regular season to the Leaf player amassing the most points in three star balloting over all 78 games. In brief there are five seasonal com- petitions, the winner of each receiving $1,000, At season's end the player with most points overall wins the Molson Cup and $1,000. DURHAM LORDS - of Durham College lost their first OCAA league hockey game to Fanshawe College (Falcons), London 10-1. As in the Lords last game, penalties played a major role, as they collected 22 minors, one misconduct and a game misconduct. Same old story, some teams never learn. OLYMPIC LOTTERY - Tickets will go on sale the first week of December and with a first prize of $1,000,000, tax-free, is believed to be one of the biggest cold-cash lottery prizes anywhere in the world. Second prize is $500,000 and third $250,000. There are prizes of $200,000, $150,000, $125,000, $100,000, $75,000, $50,000, $25,000, 240 at $5,000, 2,250 at $1,000 and 22,500 at $100. Total possible prize money $8,175,000 (subject to total sale of tickets). On the average, the possible number of winners will be one out of every 100 and the maximum number of tickets to be sold 2,500,000. Five per cent of gross revenue goes to the participating province. There will also be 10 per cent for distributors and a one per cent share of prizes over $25,000 for selling a winning ticket. Spencer's Stili Undefeated In Commercial Hockey After Beating Muttons Sunday 6-3 by Jim Clarke With four weeks elapsed inthe 18-game Commercial Hockey League schedule, Spencer's Real Estate are surveying the scene from the top rung with seven points. They remained unbeaten fol- lowing their 6-3 triumph over second place, Mutton's Shell, last Sunday morning. The victory left the winners tied with Brooks, both owning 1-3 rec- ords. It was Walter Franks first victory after three losses and Brooks third straight setback after winning the season opener against Walter Franks 8-4. In the first game, Spencers Larry Perris led their attack with three -goals and two assists. The winners' captain and last season's MVP in the playoffs now has scored seven goals and added five assists after four games.Brian Evans played a major role in Sunday's triumph, collecting a pair of goals with Gene Balson adding Spencer's other. Dave Green, with his fourth and fifth goals of the season, along with Irv Gill's fourth, replied for Mutton's. Spencers led 3-0 after the first and 5-1 following 40 minutes of action. After 4 Games Preston Atoms Stili Undefeated After four league games, Preston the Movers Major Atoms remain undefeated. In Markham on Sunday night, starting goalie Toby Rowe was blocking shots froin all directions, enabling the Movers to escape to their dressing room after two periods, only down by one goal, 2-1. While Rowe was being bombed, the Movers managed only five shots on the Markham net, with one of them blinking on the red light. Doug Dilling got the goal assisted by linemates Timmy Almond and Grant Brock. Coaches Archie Crossey and Fred Cowle were able to put the team back on track in the third period with Markham managing only one shot on goalie Mike Noland. David Tower scored the equalizer with assists to Jon Janack and Kent Wilcox. Port Hope were the opposi- tion in a home game on Saturday afternoon, with Prestons completely dominat- ing play with a 5-0 score. The Movers had time to set up their team plays with assists on all goals. Mark Abbott notched his first goal of the season, assists to Capt. Paul Dadson and Jon Janack. Janack counted the second goal assisted by David Tower. John Foote also scored his first goal with the assists going to Lenny Dyck and Kent Wilcox. Centre Jon Janack counted his third point of the game on a goal, assisted by Mark Abbott and Paul Dad- son. Grant Brock finished the scoring, assisted by right winger Doug Dilling. ln the second match, Brooks appeared to be ready for a 4-4 draw, but Oliver's goal at 19:45 of the third pushed Walter Franks into the win- ners' circle. Brooks led 1-0 after the opening 20 minutes, with Steve Burns notching his first of three. The Real Estate bunch tied it at :30 of the second, with Bob Hellam scoring his second of the year. Burns put Brooks ahead briefly at 12:15, but the winners responded with two goals in 75 seconds. Gary Wilson was the sniper on both occasions, (13:05 and 14:20). Walter Franks increased their lead to 4-2 at 2:05 of the final period, with Grant Flin- toff connecting. Brooks scrambled back to tie things as Ken Ashton narrowed the gap at 11:15. The league's leading scorer in 72-73, Burns bagged the tying goal after 15:45. The Supertest squad's uphill struggle was wasted as Oliver poked home the winner in the dying seconds. This Sunday, at 9:00 a.m, Spencer's attempt to extend their unbeaten streak when they face Walter Franks. Mutton's Shell and Brooks' Supertest meet in the 10:15 affair. Mary Brown's Novices Outscore Markham 4-2 Break Even with Whitby On Thursday evening Mary Brown's Novices travelled to Markham where they were hosted by Markham Novices All-Stars and came out on top of a closely played game by the count of 4-2. Timmy Preston opened the scoring for the local boys at the 18 second mark unassist- ed. Markham tied the score only to have Robbie Green bang in a corner shot after he was set up by Jeff Logan. Bowmanville increased the count to 3-1 when Preston scored his second goal of the game again on a solo effort. Markham closed the count to 3-2 early in the third period only to have Jeff Logan round out the scoring at the 14:59 mark on a neat pass from Scott Masters. On Saturday, Mary Brown's Toros hosted the Whitby Novice All Stars and came away with a 3-3 draw. Whitby opened up a 2-0 first period lead that stood up into the third period when they in- creased the count to 3-0 at the 6:12 mark. At the 10:27 mark Bowmanville started their comeback with Jeff Logan scoring three goals in 1:42 sec. the first unassisted and while Bowmanville was shorthand- ed. The second and third goals on passes from Robbie Green. The team played well together and their continuing fore- checking and general hustling paid off in the tie score. McGregor's Midgets Defeat Ajax 6 to 3 Bowmanville's McGregor Midgets, led by John Wood with two goals and an assist, defeated Ajax Double A Mid- gets by a score of 6-3 Saturday night. For the second time in four games, Ralph Cryderman opened the scoring for Bow- manville with the only goal of the first period at 5:40, assisted by John Wood. Ajax struck for two quick goals by diminutive Scott Walker in a minute and 28 seconds early in the second period, before Wood tied the game up at 15:15 from Jim Hutton and John Cornish, and the period ended tied 2-2. In the third, the McGregor Midgets came on strong while Ajax faded, and they out-scor- ed the visitors four goals to one. Wood opened the scoring with his second of the game at 4:54, with Rick Scott and Nick Van Seggelen assisting. At 7:04, Gary Nemisz scored his first goal of the season on a shot from the point, with assists to Jim Hutton and Gary Cox. John Plitz scored for Ajax at 10:02, before Tom Nowlan assisted by Danny Cox at 14:43, and Joey Burns from Kirk Kemp at 16:13 closed out the scoring. In a fairly clean game, Ajax were assessed nine minors while Bowmanville had five. The Midgets record is now three wins and one loss.
