FLASHBACK - 10 Years Ago - Thelma Bennett scattered the pins for a big 393 effort in the Mixed League at Liberty Bowl, this week., Thelma rolled up six consecutive strikes, missed the seventh when a corner pin wobbled but wouldn't fall. She came back with three more strikes before missing the head pin for the first time on the second ball in the 10th frame. KEN'S MEN'S WEAR - are supplyingthe outfits for Canada's World Cup golf team who will be competing in Spain later this month. The team members are Bob Panasiuk of Hydeaway Golf Club, Windsor and Phil Geroux of Montreal. They willwear maroon blazers of wool and fortrel, one pair of double knit slacks in a small neat grey check, one pair of slacks of all wool worsted in a large maroon and grey check with shirts and ties in complementary colors. This is a first for Bowmanville and quite an honor. NICE GESTURE - Last week, the Bowman- ville Hockey Association sent five complimen- tary tickets to Sunday's Junior "C" hockey game to each of the advertisers who supported thenrin their program. A much appreciated gesture because the game was a good one with plenty of good hockey. No doubt many of those who attended will be back watching subsequent games. RACING - The Ontario Snowmobile Racing Federation will this year sanction two types of events, a "B" circuit open to everyone, and for more experienced drivers who have qualified in the former category, an "A" circuit featuring purses from a $7,000 minimum to $40,000. Racing on the "A" circuit, now the Mark Ten Championship Trail, are distributor, dealer and factory teams' The Mark Ten Championship Trail begins with the Kawartha Cup in Peterborough on January 5th and 6th, followed by races in Sudbury, Owen Sound, Barrie and arry Sound, and concluding on March 2nd and 3rd with the Kawartha World Series. NEW ARENA - to be built in Darlington Township for $500,000 has been given a $200,000 Wintercapital Projects Fund, it was announced recenly. Work should begin, in Dece mber, with completion date set for April, 1974. At 2:10 of the first period Brent Clemens scored, assisted by Stan Greenham then near the end of the period Rob DeBoo scored, assisted by Garf McQuaid. There was no scoring in the second period and five min- utes into the third period Terry DeLuca scored on a breakaway. This goal was set up by Darrell Jones who passed the puck perfectly out of bis own zone and caught Terry behind the Cobourg defence and he went in all alone and scored. Cobourg scored near the end of the period. After playing some very tough opposition the last couple of weeks and playing extremely well, the boys let up a little in this game. However some solid defensive work and good goaltending from Mark Shackleton kept us on the winning track. We now stand four wins and three losses in O M H A Lakeshore Leaguen Movers Shut Out By Lindsay 2-0 Preston the Mover Major Atoms forwards refused to skate against Lindsay Satur- day night in Lindsay and were shutout by a 2-0 count. Lindsay did all their scoring in a 35 second period on the only defensive lapse by the Mover defenders, led by BrenttiCrossey along with Kevin Tink, Paul Dadson and Kent wilcox and goalers Mike Noland and Toby Rowe who played a strong third period, were responsible for holding the score so close., The Bowmanville forwards were easily knocked off the puck by thebustling Lindsay team. After two periods the up-front squad had a grand total of two shots on net and a total of five after three periods. W. Frank's Major Pee Wees Knapps Bantams Win Start Season Winnina Streak Two of Three Games After losing the first game with their new sweaters, W. Frank's Real Estate Major Pee Wcees are on track. On Saturdav, November 3, they Iost a i-'->decision to Mark- ham. Scorimg in that game was Murray Ruddy unassisted and Steven Frank assisted by Paul Cascagnette. A week later on November lth, they defeated Ajax 6-1. The first goal was at 5:42 of the second period by Paul Cascagnette unassisted. The second goal one minute and 13 seconds later by Dennis Sobil. The third goal was six minutes later hy Jimmy Hogarth unassisted (plus nine from last year that we did not mention). The fourth was scorcd witb 30 seconds left in this period by Murray Ruddy assisted by Wayde Preston. Ajax scored a fluke goal at 10:45 of the third period but Bowmanville answered two minutes later on a goal by Steven Frank assisted by Wayde Preston and Murray Ruddy. On Sunday, the team car- ried on its winning streak by defeating Markham 5-3 in' Markham. The first goal was scored by Paul Cascagnette's hard shot from the point assisted bySteven Frank. Markham then scored tbree unanswered goals, one in the first, one in the second and one at 1:35 of the third period. At il:15 in the third period the team caugbt on fire. A nice wrist shot by John Stewart assisted by Steven Frank and Murray Ruddy. Three min- utes and 30 seconds later Scot Sellers scored assisted by Pat Reynolds. One minute and five seconds later John Stewart scored his second of the nigbt assisted by Steven Frank. It was "Billy Sainsbury Night" as far as Bowmanville was concerned, as Bill picked up six points on one goal and five assists in a great effort. Rick Erwin scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Captain Billy Hogarth. Joe Nihill, who played a fine game, scored the second, assistcd by Sainsbury. Rod Plain scored early in the second, assisted by Sainsbury and Nihill. Nihill scored his second, assisted by "Sainsy" and Steve Cary. Newcastle potted their lone marker in the second period. Bowmanville scored their fifth goal, Brad Clemens the marksman, assisted by Chris Dyck. Plain scored his second and third goals of the contest, the assists going to Ed Osborne and Sainsbury on his second and Sainsbury and Osborne on his third. Ricky Erwin completed his hat trick in the third, assists going to Mike Stocker on his second goal, and Steve Cary on bis third marker. Billy Sainsbury completed bis finest game by scoring tbe last goal, assîsted by bis fleet centreman Plain and Chris Dyck. Ken Woodard played in net for Bowmanville and had to comesup with some difficult saves. On Saturday, Nov. loth, the Western Electric sauad hosted Port Hope and handed the visitors a 10-0 lossmin O.M.H.A. Minor Atom action. There was only one goal scored in the first period. Brian Ruddy, who is improv- ing with every game, was the marksman, the assist going to defenceman Mike Stocker. Chris Dyck fired a beautiful goal from the point to give Bowmanville a 2-0 lead. Rod Plain scored, assisted by Joe Nihill and Billy Sainsbury. Captain Billy Hogarth fired a goal, assisted by Barry Cul- len. Hogarth connected again, the assist going to Ricky Erwin. The third period belonged to the locals as they seemed to get stronger as the game progressed. Brad Clemens scored, the assists going to Brian Ruddy and Eddy Osborne. At Cobourg, Knapps opened a quick 3-0 lead in the first four minutes on goals by Chris Marchant from John Conboy and John Davis twice, once unassisted and the other on a pass from Gord Wallace. Cobourg narrowed the lead to 3-2 scoring twice near the end of the first period. Bowman- ville fired the only goal of the second, Tom Conneil from Chris Marchant. Terry Sar- ginson increased the leadto 5-2 on an unassisted goal with Cobourg scoring the final near the end of the game. At Ajax, Knapps suffered their first league game loss of the young season 4-3. Knapps came out skating in the third and opened a 3-lead on two goals by Robert Ormis- ton, both assisted by John Conboy. That's where the lapse came in and Aja scored three times in eight minutes and 20 seconds. At Memorial Arena on Sat. Nov. lth, Lindsay were the visitors and Bowmanville out- lasted them 6-5 in a game that was poorly played defensively by both teams. Knapps took a one goal lead three times only to have Lindsay coe right back to tie the game. After Knapps opened a 6-3 lead in the third period Lindsay pulled their goaltender and scored twice in the final minute. Scoring for Bowman- ville were Jerry Johnston and Terry Sarginson twice eacb with singles by Chris March- ant and Robert Ormiston. Sarginson also had two assists along with Eddy-Gruyters and one each went to Johnston, Connell, Davis, Conboy, Marchant and Leddy. 623-3303 I SPORT A CROSS COUNTRY SKIING - has come to the area and last year's members of the club are now preparing for its second season. Vice President Jim Read, phone 623-7004, has information for anyone interested. Last yearthe club, named "Pine Ridge Cross Country Ski Club", had a membership of 60 and this year expect around 100. Trails are in operation in the Ganaraska and Enniskillen Conservation areas with other trails being considered. One of the services being maintained by the club is a weather service.
