Frankford Rallies For Tie with Eagles by David Passant The Bowmanville Junior hock- ey club carded a 4-2 lead at the midway point of the final period, but observed thier margin uickly vanish. What the Eages had accomplished during the first fifty minutes of action in Frankford, Friday Nov. 9th., was reversed by the home team. The Huskies copied the visitors offensive output in the final ten minutes to earn a 6-6 draw with the Red Eagles Bowmanville fell behind 5-4 at 15.32 on Doug Nash's unassisted marker, but one minute and seven seconds later they regained the lead 6-5. Goals by Steve Davey and Ted Puk, both assisted by John Wood, just 33 seconds apart, gave them the edge. However less that a minute later, at 17.15 the contest was evened for good. S.-Oshawa The contest was a free- wheeling see-saw battle with plenty of hard hitting, exciting action. It was a goalies nightmare for both Huskies' Jim Conley and Eagle's Slip Rowe, who played well despite givmg up six markers each. Huskies received a hat trick performance from Doug Nash while Robert Arbuckle had a four point evening. Eagle's big gun was Assistant Captain, Bill Wagar with a goal and two assists. Frankford opened the scor- ing at 6:50, Arbuckle from John Murphy and Nash, but the Eagles added a pair before the end of the period. Ro Gibbs counted from Rick Vanseggelen, then Wagar from Gibbs at 18:57. Nash evened things at 13:26 from Arbuckle, but the Eagles added two more, to lead 4-2 at the end of 40 minutes. Ted Puk counted his first of two goals, from Wagar, and with 55 second remaining Rick Vans- eggelen scored from Wagar and Ca ptain Bruce Osborne. The final period displayed wide open hockey, with Frank- ford dead locking the score 4-4, on two fast goals, Doug Nash, with his 2nd of three, unassisted, at 10:58, and then Robert Arbuckle's 2nd marker from Jean Doucette and Gary Payne, did the damage. Then Frankford took a short lived lead, with the Eagles, in less than a minute, gaining back the edge, before Dou- cette's goal made it Bowman- ville '6, Frankford 6. Eagles Extras: John Wood, up from the minor ranks, played an important role in the game. be drew assists on botb the 5th and 6th goals, helping Bow- manville gain the tie. It should be noted that this year's S*ponsor of the Bowmanville club is Bob Beers Plumbing and Heating, and the spon- sor's name will be appearing on the Eagles sweaters short- ly. Knapps Bantams Lose to Whitby On Sai., Nov. 17th at Memorial Arena, Whitby out- skated and outhit Knapp's Major Bantams to gain an 8-4 win in a game that again saw Bowmanville take too many unnecessary penalties. Whitby scored once in the first period and three times in the second to take a com- manding 4-0 lead. Knapps came on strong in the third and had narrowed the gap to 5-4 at the 15 minute mark. But again cheap penalties played a big part in costing Bowman- ville the game as Whitby scored three times in the last two minutes. Captain John Conboy scored twice for Knapps with one each by Chris Marchant and Terry Sarginson. Assists went to Tom Connell, Jerry John- ston, Robert Ormiston and Terry Sarginson. Both games were played on the opposition's ice. In the first encounter at Ajax the locals found their old form of scoring goals as they passed and hit clean to completely dominate play. Ajax got the first goal of the game at the 50 second mark of the opening period then Bow- manville came back 10 sec- onds later to start a scoring spree of Il unanswered goals. The Transporters' attack was led by centreman Don Farrow who scored four goals and assisted on three others. With a four goal lead going into the third period, the Bowmanville squad appeared to lay back and neglect the back-checking duties and in doing so, watched Whitby rattle in three quick goals in the first four minutes of play in their period to draw one goal away from a tie. At this point they came out of their shell as Scott Stevens blasted a hard shot from the right wing to give Bowmanville a 5-3 lead. Rick Bain put in the insurance goal at the 15 minute mark with a hard slap shot from 20 feet out. Brad Godfrey picked up two goals and two assists to lead the point parade, Bain added a pair with one assist, single counters going to Ed Visser and Scott Stevens.
