The Port Darlington Boat Basin, owýned and operated by lrv Gil, was a dreamn in the sipring of 1972, when lrv made pjlans.to buîld 36 covered boat slips. During the season of 1973 he had 415 boat slip)s in operation, this accommodat ing only 10 per cent of the boats visitinq the m-arina. This season there *ili be approxi- mately 90 boat slips in operation, as well as wvash rooms, showers and a park to accommodate nautical pleas- ure seekers on Lake Ontario south of Bowmianville. The marina, located in the former m-.arsh area between Simpson Avenue and and the Soper Creek, ma y soon býcmeiL "The recreation cen- tre" of the area. There are plans to begin construction on a night club, a restaurant and poimig ol0 by June, if all goes well. This wîll mean seasonal employment for sev- eral persons. But over the years other products including ýcommuni- cafors, card readers, poolers', check digit equipmenf, lune- printers and tape readers, have streamed from the Bowmanville production lie. The plant also makes prinfed circuit board packag- es and cable harnessing. The plant's initial comple- ment 0f 25 -employees has multiplied several times and foday the operation ýdraws factory, and office wurkers .from Newcastle and Orono, as well as from the immediate Bowmanville area. A year after the plant was built if was doubled in size to 40,000 square feet to make room for expand- ed production.
