The term municipal partnership is coming dloser to a rea1i t tan it has ever been possible in pfast. Although it stili has a ong way to go, a satisfactory stant has been made. Cabinet ministers are in the minority now who shrug their shoulders andg o thein own contrary way . The recent shake.up at cabinet level may have inspin- ed some of the more indepen- dent to adopt a more co-oper- ative frame of mi. The Hon John White is his Restructun- ed County Policy, recently reieased,,has adopted many of the guidelines proposed by the A.C.R.O. association in its Guidelines for Development. it was a pleasune to meet the honorable gentlemen on such an informai basis in a social hour following the presenta- tion. Janetville-Yelverton took thein Sunday game vs Scugog by a narrow squeaker on Sunday afternoon at Janet- ville by a 6-4 score. After coming into the ninth inning with a 6-0 lead, the locals almost blew their comfortable lead with four nuns scored against, two nunnens on base before the final out was made. Donnie Timms pitched the whole nine innings for Janet- ville. Brian Wilson made the one outstanding catch of -the day in right field. Manvers ratepayers are currently receiving their tax bis and a possible word of explanation could be in onden. Despite a sizeable growth in assessment and a distinct inflationany trend in every phase of operation the follow- ing increases or decreases were registered in this vears budget. By dint of strictest economy the Township rate was lowered by one miii. The Township rate includes al phases of township openation inciuding the rond and bridge department. This department has been one of the handest hit by energy cisis and inflation- ary trend. Oul prime has almost doubled in cost. The most drastic increase has come in the County Rate.Last Yvean our contribution to Non- thumberland - Dunham was approximateiy $47,000 as, our share. This year our share of Victoria county operation is a nerve shattering $87,000 - an increase of $40,00 necessita- ting an increase of over 11 milis over iast years requine- ments, from 19.02 milîs to a startling 30.51 milîs - a disturbing tura of events. Last week we made personai re- presentation to the Treasurer Demo- Derby Big Smash- At Westgate Speedway' by D. Nesbitt The night was warm and the stands were filled to capacity on Saturday night at Westgate Speedway where aiong with the regular racing events a smashing Demolition Derby thrilled the fans and in which Ted Pederson of Norwood came out the winner. Ted has been a winner in past Demoli- tion races held at this track. In the Charger Division Ray McGill of Peterborough came out the winner in the first and second heat. Bob Thompson of Peterbonough took the thirty lap Featune in which the Chargers were running for John White re possibility of a transition grant. We have been assured that this will be looked into by his assistants. Our County Education Re- presentative, Mr. Art Rowan, indicates a 13 per cent increase in educational budget over last year which has been totally absorbed by increased assessment and even provideci a small decrease in educa- tional miii rate. The overal picture is an eight miii increase over last year, from 110 to 118 milis which trans- Iated into dollars and cents means $800 increase on taxes for every $1000. of assessment.
