Letters to the Editor Dear Sir: A VERY PRIVATE MEET- ING 0F MAN VERS COUN- CIL on Tuesday October lst, at 8 p.m. in the evening, we the undersigned ratepayers made an attempt to be present at a special meeting o f MANVERS COUNCIL as interested oh- servers. The meeting was held to discuss various details per- taining to a mobile home park already being developed in the township. Also in attendance was the park developer and the township onsultant. Having een threatened with the establishment of a large development of this type adjacent to our own properties we were interestecl in' the details to be discussed., At the opening of the meeting Reeve Harvey Mal- colm asked for a motion that we be allowed to be present at this meeting. Council person Mrs. Noreen Pro pp made a motion to this effect wbich was defeated without a se- conder The Reeve then informed us that we would have to leave the meeting, which we did immediately after being as- sured that any decisions made at this meeting would be presented at the next regular council meeting. Af ter referring to a copy of the Municipal Act published February 1972, we find that section 193' states, and we quote, "193 If there lis no By-Law or resolution fixing the place of meeting, a special meeting, shail be held at the place where the then last meeting was held, and a special meeting may be either open or closed as in the opinion of the Council -ex- pressed by resolution'in writ- ing, the public interest re- quires. R.S.O. 1970, C. 284, S. 193".' In our opinion therefore a resolution in writing declaring that the meeting be closed to the public and passed by the majority of cotincil was neces- sary before we could be excluded from this meeting. In future, if the public is to be excluded from special meetings, we would certainly hope that the correct proce-, dure will be followed. Mr. L.T. Fairhurst, Mr. C.R. Bramble. Dear Editor: Just a few Unes to some- one I hope could print this letter in~ your weekly paper with hopes it couid reach our very knowledgeable citizens of ]Bowmanvi11e. At the most unfortunate loss of our old High School by fire on'SundaY it was in- teresting to note and hear some of the reasons the fire got started and who started it.-- -1 would like to quote somne of those comments. "Thcj old things Was con,- demned anyway". "lIt had >poor heating and the furnace gave out". But rmn sure that the most frustratiag. were the comments against the teens of our communitY and the Training School kids. These coraments were: "lIt'si those teens, they are the ones - they do almnost anything for fun todaY." "It's the training sehool Ids, they are really bad, those kids"'., .What they did not know was an aduit haci already been taken iato custody and charged with the setting Of ail fires that. had been started that night. Quite often our aduit pop- ulation are took quick 'to judge theiteens of today and the Training school kids-for ail and everything that goes on. And as a result We get very sour attitudes from ail this younger generation for the aduit remarks and Our attitudes. Perhaps, if we as adluIts could look f0 the Bible dnd see, what the Scriptures show us we wiould find that it says... "Love thy neigh- spring conivénition.- Gord Cochrane represented the Young Liberals in the area at the Sept. 24 meeting. He told the members that plans were being made for a Young Liberals Meeting in the near future. In connection with the newly proposed provincial electorial houndaries the Durham Lib- eral Association made it known that they would support a petition put forth by any citizens group in Cavan ti- have Cavan Township join tht Peterborough riding versus the now proposed Victoria Riding Affiliation.
