Mrs. Garland Cathcart took charge of the program and spoke on Nellie McClung, who was a fearless pioneer in the struggle for women's rights. She was born in 1873 in GreyNi County Ontarlo and moved to Manitoba at the age of six. In ail she wrote 17 books and innumerable short stories and newspaper articles. Probably the best known book is 'Sowing Seeds in Danny' of which 100,000 copies were sold. One Canadian postage stamp bore Nellie Mclung 's picture last vear, it being.100 years since hier birth. The Kendal folk were very pleased to have such a fine speaker and choir for their anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. -Eldon Little from near Moncton, New Brunswick, visited. with Mr. and Mrs. Allen Downes this vast week. Mrs. Ethelda Williamson from London spent the week- end with her daughter and family Mr. and Mrs. George Brewer. The pupils from Grade 4,5 and 6 and their teachers from Kendal School, recently visit- ed Orono Museum and Orono Forestry, the Dept. of Lands and Forests. The following is the report written by two of the puils Joanne Wybenga and MiE Kortekaas. On Oct. l6th. the grades 4,5 and 6 of Kendal Public School, went on a trip with Mrs. J. Landry and Mrs. J. Boy. We visited the Clarke Museum and Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Roberts and Shelley Loucks guided us and showed us what the people had in the pioneer days. They also gave us a detailed description of the ancient furniture. We viewed the inside of a cabin, a bedroom, a church, and we saw a collection of dolîs and many other interesting art- icles. Then Sandra Dennis thanked the ladies for showing us and telling us about the articles. Following this, we visited the Orono Forestry and saw some sides of a pine forest before it was disturbed by man. Then we saw how they planted the pine trees and, we went to a field where they had grown two year old trees. Our guide then gave each of us a red pne tree to plant at home. Vernoni Carman then thanked our guide for his efforts to make our trip worthwhile.
