The Band has been busy the past two weeks, performing concerts at Hillsdale Manor, Lake Vista Public School and this week at Hobbs. They are also in the process of produc- ing a record. Many thanks are due to Mr. Wicks and his carpentry students for constructing and assembling risers for the music room. They not only give the roomn a more profes- sional atmosphere, but also create a better musical sound because each instrument now hias a specific section in which to0 play. Mrs. Isabe, Osborne was called to the front and with a few words of thanks for looking after us through the year, Mrs. Cecil Adams presented ber with a hanging arrangement as. a small tokern of our apprecia- tion. Mrs. Osborne thanked the gatbering of about fifty. The tables were then re- moved in preparation for the program which was the very popular Intermediate' Court- ice Hgb Scbool Band. It was well received and their leader was tremendous with his jokes and recital of the band's achievements.' Our U.C.W. President, Mrs. Cordon Curi., thanked leader- and band for a delightful performance. A friendly game of cards completed a most enjoyable Christmas Party. De put yRev Awarded Service Medal Lenah Field Fisher, Co- bi)urg's deputy reeve,- bas been awarded the Medal of Service of the Order of Canada. Tbe distinction was gazetted Saturday in the Canada Gazette. TLb investi- ture will take place at Government House, Ottawa in tbe spring. Mrs. Fisher reccives the award for her outstanding contribution to Cobourg's public life. She has been a prime mover among citizens to restore the town's 114-year- old Victoria Hall. Until 1973, sbe owned and operated "Marie Dressler's Birth- place", 'one of'North Ameni- ca's outstanding dining houses. (It is now owned by a Port Hope man Luigi Brand- mno). Sbe bas been on Cobourg council since 1959, first as councillor and tben as deputy reeve, and at tbe December elections defeated Coun. Boyd Hendry for tbe post. The award carnies tbe initiais "CM" after the name. Mrs. Fisber was born in Cobourg and graduated from Macdonald Institute now the University of Guelph. Her busband, Donald Fisher, died in 1956.
