In an impressive ceremony President Colmer officiated at the initiation of new members Comrade Beverly Price, who was escorted by Sergeant-at- arms Jean Burton. Immediate Past President Trixie Brown was appointed catering convenor for the lunch to be served after the Public Speaking Contest which will e held by Branch 178 of the Royal Canadian Le ion on Sunday, January 26th, starting at one p.m. in the Legion Hall. 1st Vice President Nyhl Sheehan presented her report as convenor on the successful bingos held during the year 1974. She also presented the Mrs. Jean Florence Hoornweg, 38, of 37 Little Ave. has been charged with failing to stop after the car she was driving was involved in- a collision with a 1967 green Ranch Wagon at the corner of Church and Ontario Street on Thursday at 2:48 p.m. Thelma Rose Hoornweg, 14, a passenger in the Hoornweg vehicle, a red 1968 Chevy Wagon was rushea to Bowmanville Memorial Hospital and aamittea Hamm during the holidays. Mr. James Wilson was at the organ of the Kirby United Circh during the absence of Mrs. H. Lower on Sunday, Dec. 29th. Mrs. Jack Stapleton of Kendal has been staying with her father, Mr. Charlie Cooper since he returned home from suffering lower back pains. Her mother Jean was treated at the same time for a slight soreness to the left arm and hand. She was not admitted. Edward Pardis, 29, of 35 Church Street, the driver of the green Ranch Wagon escaped injury. The Hoornweg car was south bound on Ontario Street and the Pardis vehicle east bound on Church Street when the two vehicles collided. Charged with Improper Left Hand Turn Settimio Naccarato, 47, of Toronto has been charged with improper left hand turn following an accident at Hwy. 2 and the Courtice Road, Saturday at 4:15 p.m. The Naccarato vehicle was west bound on Hwy 2 then made a left hand turn to go south on Courtice Road when it collided with a white Ford pickup heading east on Hwy 2. The pickup truck was owned and operated by John McGuey, 44, of R.R. 1, Newtonville. The meeting was -epened with a short rayer for the new year. Mrs. tevens welcomed the guests from both Newtonville and Shiloh. The minutes of the December meeting were read and adopted. The Rev. G. Montgomery showed some very interesting slides on the Mission and Service work done in the Bay of Quinte Conference. Following the showing of the slides Mrs. Stevens presented the past president, Mrs. Allan Downes, with a gift as a token of appreciation for her faithful work in the past two years from the members. Mr. Mont- gomery closed the meeting after which a social half hour of fellowship was enjoyed over lunch. Mrs. F. Porteous of Winni- peg has been visiting with her sister, brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Stevens. New Year's Day guests with Miss Catharine Stewart were Miss Marion McKelvey, Mr. and Mrs. Garland Cathcart and Arthur Thompson. Misses Clara Seens of Peterborough and Margaret Seens of Ottawa spent several days with Mr. and Mrs. R. Elliott the week of the New Year. The winners at the last card party in Kendal hall were Lady's High - Mrs. Joyce Stacey, lady's low - Mrs. LaVina Downes, Gent's high - Lorne Stacey and gent's low - Dave Thrower. The 50-50 door prize went to Argus Curtis. There will be another card party in Kendal next Friday evening Jan. 17. Mr. and Mrs. R. Elliott were supper guests last Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. John Fox and family of Peterborough. Guests with Mr. and Mrs. John MeMillan at their cot- tage over the New Year's holiday were Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Startup of London, Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Austin and daughter Carol who is attend- ing Queen's University, Miss Mary MacLean from Water- lool, Mr. Brian Haynes from Thornhill and Miss Karen MeMillan who is attending Western University. Mr. and Mrs. Argus Curtis recently attended the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Aine Curtis, the bride was formerly Miss Mary L. Evans, in Pontypool Church. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fonk and linnly, returned home this past week from a holiday in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fonk and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Fonk attended the funeral of their aunt Mrs. Louise Williams last Saturday in Burks Falls. The Three-inone Couples Club held a dinner meeting on Saturday evening in Kendal Sunday School room. About 25 sat down to a hot chicken dinner after which a business meeting was conducted. It was moved that Mr. Mark Wagar became vice-president while the president Keith Wood and secretary Mrs. L. Hay carry on for another year. The February meeting is to be a Valentine Party in Newton- ville Church basement. The lunch convenors are Mrs. M. Samis and Mrs. R. Elliott. After the meeting was closed by Rev. G. Montgomery a social evening of game .and a sing song was enjoyed by all. The Rev. G. Montgomery conducted a typical Anglican Service of Morning Prayer on D J URlURE FREE DELIVERY AND SETTING-UP Sunday morning. His sermon was 'What is an Anglican' This proved quite interesting in a United Church. There were alsq several pampblets to study on the principies of union between t he Anglican Church and the United Church. Since there will be a voting on this subject some time n the future it is well to know the differences in the two forms of service and church organizational struct- ure. Mrs. Keith Wood played the organ. Mrs. Dave Skerratt and Mrs. G. Johnson left last Friday on a holiday to Florida. Mr. Edward Carscadden entertained the drivers of his bus lines during the Christmas holidays to a dinner at Noone's Restaurant after which all retuned to his home for a social evening. During the evening the bus drivers pre- sented him with an anniver- sary clock. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Car- scadden entertained his parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Carscadden and Bruce last Sunday. December bingo report. As sports officer Vice Pres- ident heehan announced that the winner of the beautiful hand crocheted afghan was Comrade Gwen Gibson. This exquisite bed size afghan was made and donated by Com- rade Florence Knight, and was raffled to auxiliary mem- bers with the proceeds going to the sports fund. 1st Vice President Sheehan told the meeting that the following four teams will compete in the Zone Darts Tournament to be held in Oshawa on Saturday, January 18th.
