These men close their eyes to the beauty and enter our woods and meadows - not to discover the comforting gurgie of a bubbl- ling brook; not to freshen their choked lungs with the sweet, pungent odour of fallen leaves and rich, damp soil - but with one, common intention and that is to kill. These men, armed with a rifle and a case of beer, are called "sportsmen" although 1 fail to see what sport can be derived in the senseless, brutal massacre of our pre- clous and delicate wildlife. What will happen to us when there is no more wildlîfe left for the sportsman to track down and kill? What punish- ment will we ail have to face for this grave wrongdoing? Look around you and you will see that we are already beginning to suffer the effects of their mistake. But it is not yet too late. 1 ask the liunter to pause a moment and think carefully about what he is about to do the next time he takes aim at bis target - a graceful, tawny doe perhaps, grazing peace- fully in a quiet meadow - andi I hope he will see the wrong he is about to commit and thus, lower bis gun. It would be by far a more sportsmanlike gesture to re-, place that rifle with a camera. CAVAN W.
