Anlican (hurch News The ladies of St. George's ACW met last Wednesday. They lan to meet every first and third Wednesday with a series of speakers and pro- grammes. All ladies are welcome. At St. George's on Thurs- day, Jan. 15, there will be a Service at 7 p.m. with Com- munion in the Chapel. The Annual Vestry Meeting will be held January 26th at 8 p.m. The Deanery Council meets this Wednesday, January 14 at St. George's, Grafton. Next Sunday, Jan. 18, there will be Communion at all Services. Mr. Oakley Peters, who was hospitalized is now progress- ing favourably at home. United Church News On Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Newcastle United Church, the choir rendered the anthem "O Jesus, I have promised." Reverend Thomas Smith spoke on Making the Most of our Lot in Life usng as his text "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might." Flowers were placed in the Church in memory of Mr. Jesse Allin, whose funeral was on Thurs., Jan. 8. Mr. Allin, a veteran of World War I, was caretaker of the Church at one time. Rev. Robert Ha yne, padre of the Legion, conduct- ed the funeral service. The Men's Hostel in Oshawa is moving to 381 Simcoe St. S., Oshawa, and will be known as the Men's Residence. Lionettes News The Lionettes met at the home of Mrs. Nellie Brawley on Thursday evening, Jan. 8 with 16 members present. The guest speaker was Miss Debbie Jenkins who told of her experiences in South Africa. Her mother, Mrs. Jenkins, was also a guest for the evening. Plans were made for Feb. 14 when Lionettes' hus- bands will be entertained at Jean Rickard's home. Hockey News On Thursday, January 8, the Newcastle Lumbermen play- ed against Millbrook, winning by a score of 2-1. The first goa was scored by Brian Carr assisted by Blaine Gilmer. the second gopl was by Paul Peter from Robbie Wallis. On Friday Newcastle Lumbermen and Orono played a tie game 2-2. Newcastle came from be- hind 2-0 to tie the game, Brian Langstaff scoring from Blaine Gilmer and Brian Carr. The second goal was also scored by Brian Langstaff assisted by Blaine Gilmer. Mrs. Jim Curtis, Vicky and Miss Rose Sirianni of Lindsay enjoyed a boat cruise and a visit to Mexico last week. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Curtis spent the weekend in London with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Perkins. Eight tables of cards were played in Ballyduff last Fri- day night with winners - Mrs. Leta Ford, Mrs. Reta Neals, Mrs. V. Strong, Gordon Strong, Meredith Preston and Bruce McGill. The next card party in Ballyduff will be on Friday, Jan. 23rd. A card party will be held in Pontypool Community Centre on Thurs- day, Jan. 15. Mrs. Masters is resently staying with ber daughter, Mrs. Margaret Wright. Mrs. Bob Forrest recently spent three days in Toronto shopping and visiting with friends. At the regular monthly meeting of the Ponty pool Chamber of Commerce held this past week the same officers were appointed for 1976 - i.e. President - Jim Stanley, Vice-Pres. - Roy Gaynor, Sec'y.-Treas. - Yvonne Fallis. Future meetings of the Chamber of Commerce will be held on the first Monday of each month at 8 p.m. The Chamber of Commerce are now sponsoring a chaperoned Teen ance. At an executive meeting of the Pontypool U.C.W. held at the home of Mrs. Grace Fallis on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Isabelle Challice, the presi- dent for the past year, resigned ber position as she is moving this week to Bowman- ville. No one, as yet, bas been appointed to fill the vacancy. Isabelle was a very active president, putting a great deal of effort into her work. The U.C.W. will miss her. At this executive meeting it was decided that the U.C.W. give a donation to the Bethany Fire Disaster Fund and that a hymn book be placed in the church in memory of the late Mrs. John Allan. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, Feb. lth at 1:30 p.m. in the church with Barbara Barske- tis and Jocelyn Waldie in charge. We extend an invita- tion to all women in the counityeiattend. We have many new families now living in Pontypool, especially in the subdivision, and we welcome these ladies to join with us and bring new plans and ideas to our organization. (We are not all old grannies). I received recently a Dofasco Illustrated News magazine - Christmas edition. It contains several pictures and a description of the film that was on Ch. 11 on Christmas Eve with Old Number 136 railroad engine and the Dofasco Chorus. The magazine was sent by Charles Feller of 218 Bedford Park Ave., Toronto, who included a little note saying, "As a one-time resident of Ponty- F ool, some of the people may ike to see these photos". Mrs. Murray Malcolm and Sect. Mrs. Fred Stacey were initiated into their new duties. Several from the commun- ity attended the Durham County Crop Improvement annual meeting at Orono on Friday, January 9. One of the largest attendance yet was present to hear several cap- able speakers deal with cert- ain specific topics relative to Crop Improvement. Mr. and Mrs. Bob DeJong and son returned this past week from a holiday in the Caymen Islands where they report a 80 degree tempera- ture or better in contrast to Florida's less attractive tem- peratures. They enjoyed a trip out on the Atlantic deep sea fishing expedition. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Malcolm and girls, back from Florida, re- port very little (if any) bikini weatner during thieir stay.
