Under the costumes were Leslie Gardner, Debbie Veldhuis and Evelyn Smith. An early part of the Junior Skaters was listed as the "Circus Animals" and included this group of young Monkeys comprised of Aimee Jo Brunton, Susan Gibson, Laura Kozak, Richard Maki, Kerry Hester, Tanya Brady, Jeanette Collison, Julie Green, Tara Malloy, Janet Wind, Joanne Woodbeck, Erin Empey and David Hole. Ponies, Lions and a Black Panther also accompanied the Ringmaster in the circus performance. Another group performance in the Senior part of the Figure Skating program was "Rock'n Roll of the '50's" with skaters, Shelly Pickering, Lisa Allin, Lori Tisnovsky, Carol Selby, Wendy Johnson, Susan Wagar, Dianne Moir and Shelly Payne. On Tuesday evening, March 16th a community bridal shower was held in Kendal Sunday School room in honor of Pansy Patton. The co- hostesses were Mrs. Kathy Mercer and Mrs. Debbie Overy who conducted a couple of contests before the gifts were opened. Pansy thanked everyone for their gifts after which a tasty lunch was served including a beautifully decorated shower cake. On Saturday afternoon March 20th Pansy and Mark Runsons were married in Kendal Church with Rev. G. Mont- gomery officiating. It was a very pretty wedding with their attendants, little flower girl and ring bearer. The reception was held in the Sunday School Room with the U.C.W. cater- ing the turkey dinner. The young couple will live in Oshawa. Mrs. R. Elliott attended Shiloh U.C.W. meeting on Wednesday March 17th at the home of Mrs. Wm. Robinson, where her pictures of New- foundland and the eastern provinces were shown after their meeting. The L.O.L. dance on Satur- day evening March 20th in Kendal hall was well attended. The Couples Club Orchestra provided the music. Archie One of many solo performers in both the Junior and Senior division during the carnival was Senior Nancy Tisnovsky wearing the attractive costume in which she also took part in the "Rock Opera of the 70's" performance. Hoy was the lucky winner on the door prize. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Carscad- den returned home from a 16 day tour of Hawaiian Islands, last Monday. Kendal Women's Institute met at the home of Mrs. Wm. Turansky on Wednesday aft- ernoon March 24th. There were eight members present. The president Mrs. Dykeman opened the meeting with the Institute Ode followed by the Mary Stewart Collect. The minutes were read and approved. The Roll Call was answered by telling a current event in the news lately. We were sorry to report no one was able to attend the district directors meeting in Hampton last week. The quilt for the penny sale is in the process of being made, blocks were on display. Further plans for penny sale in April were made. The meeting was closed by singing O Canada followed by a tasty lunch provided by, Mrs. Turansky and Corrine. The April meeting is to be held at the home of Mrs. R. Elliott. Mrs. Gary Thertell held a Coppercraft Guild Show on Wednesday evening March 24th. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Wagar returned last week from a holiday in Florida. Mrs. T. Gosson and daugh- ters Charlene and Barbara returned from a holiday in Jamaica. Phyllis and Brenda Knapp of Bowmanville spent the last couple of weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Gary Thertell. Mr. and Mrs. R. Elliott spent a couple of days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Neil Elliott of Maple Leaf, bringing their grandchildren Karen, David and Christine Elliott back with them for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Downes held a pancake social at their sugar bush on Saturday after- noon. Proceeds went toward a bus trip for the students who ride to school on Mr. Downes' bus route. On Sunday the Kinsmen from Pine Ridge Lodge were there for hot pancakes and maple syrup. At the card party in Kendal Hall on Friday evening the winners were as follows - High OBITUARY LESLIE ROY GRAHAM Semi-retired for the past 10 years, Leslie Roy Graham, aged 81, died in Oshawa General Hospital, on Wednes- day, March 24th, 1976. He had been ill a few weeks. Born and educated in Hay- don, he was the son of the late David and Emily (Cowling) Graham. On April 28th, 1920 he married Ethel Ashton. . A lifetime resident of Hay- don, he was self-employed as a custom thresher, a wartime welder at Pedlers, Oshawa, road superintendant for Dar- lington Township and general mechanic prior to retirement at Graham's garage owned by his elder son. He had maintained exten- sive flower and vegetable gardens and kept a keen interest in the garage, al- though semi-retired. A member of Haydon United Church where he served as Steward, he transferred to Tyrone United Church when Haydon Church was closed. Serving approximately two years inthe 136th Battalion in the First World War he was Lady - Mrs. A. Downes, Low Lady - Helen Bajoreg, High Man- Reg. Elliott, Low Man - Karen Elliott playing on a man's card. The 50-50 door prize was won by Lorne Stacey. At Church on Sunday morn- ing Rev. G. Montgomery chose as his Lenton Sermon 'The Unwanted Man' telling of Zacchaeus the rich tax collec- tor who wished to see Jesus by climbing a sycamore tree. Lesson taken from Luke 19:1-10. There was the recep- tion of two new members by transfer Mr. and Mrs. J. Westlake whose membership was transferred from West- minster Church in Whitby. Mr. Ron Frank met the people at the door. The new red hymn books were used. Rev. Mont- gomery took the services at Nel-Gor and Southaven Nurs- ing Homes, Newcastle. Mrs. K. Ward and other members of the Couple's Club Orchestra provided the music.
