In every province and the Northwest Territories, Scouts will be expressing their concern fèr their country through planting trees. The resuits of this project will be a more beautiful Canada, a land which is less susceptible to flooding and a future source of vital raw materials. The "'Trees For Canada" project was launched on a trial hasis in Ontario in 1972. A similar program 'Trees for Tomorrow' was undertaken in Manitoba. Both of these projects 'have proven that Scouts enjoy the opportunity to get personally involved in contributing to the future of Canada. "Trees for Canada" is an ideal opportunity for Scouting to do a three-way good turn - for the country, for the -boy who partici- pates and for Scouting, at all levels. Each participant - boy or, leader -commits himself to plant a designated number of trees. People are asked to sponsor the participant at an amount per tree as, is done in a walk-a-thon. No one can deny'the benefit to the boy. His participation in such an environmental projeet will gîve him a first hand association with the problems facing the country eoncerning forest coverage. His present profit is the pride in taking part in a big project which helps develop the country. The growing forest wilI be a constant, reminder to him and others of his participation' in a practical, useful good turn during his youth., This project is also ideally suited to reinfore and enlarge Scouting's program in the outdoors and ecology. Lt also can be directly linkedto star and badge requirements. Over 500 Boys, Leaders and Aduits Working Today for a Better Tomorrow. -'LOCAL PLA NTING.
