Hobbs Senior Public School contributed in the Oshawa Kiwanis Music Festival on April 29th giving the school first place with a final mark of 85. The 85 member choir was directed by Mrs. J. Crookshank Winners at -the Senior Citi- zen Card Party on Tuesday evening were: lst - Belle Werry, 2nd - Meta Read 83, 3rd - Bessie McCullough 81, 4th - Ross Alsop 81, 5th - Lorna Richards 80, 6th - Dorothy McDiarmid 79, Low prize - Greta Cameron. Seven girls from Cartwright Central Public School were involved in a gymnastic com- petition at Henry Street High School, Whitby. This involved compulsory and optional floor routines. Cindy Wilson won a medal for the compulsory routine at the junior level. Lea Anne Hardy won a medal for the compulsory routine at the intermediate level. Congratu- lations girls as this being the first year of training in gymnastics which started in October. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. John Kent (nee Donna Swain) who were married in Blackstock United Church on Saturday. Twenty girls met at the home of Aileen VanCamp for the May meeting of the U.C.W. The general meeting opening with a dessert luncheon will be on May 25th. Our June meeting is to be a Pool Party at Joan Graham's. Jean Adams showed us a chart with the different items making up the U.C.W. 1976 budget. The "Talk Alfa" group will be in Blackstock from May 22nd - 25th at the United Church. Mrs. G. Thompson showed.us how to make Apple Head Dolls and told us how she became interested in such an interest- ing hobby. Donna Kyte gave the Worship with the theme on "Friendship" and closed with the words to the song "Mo- ther". A delicious lunch was served by the group. Sympathy is extended to the relatives of two Pontypool area residents who passed away this past week. The late Alvin Brown of R.R. 3 suffered a fatal heart attack on his farm on Tuesday. Burial was on Friday. The late Tom Waites of R.R. 2 passed away on Monday with burial on Thursday.
