12 The Canadiari Statesman,E On *Wednesday evening,, May 12, the Solina W.L. spent an extremely pleasant time visiting the recently opened shop at the 'House of Amber' at Hampton. This is at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. R-. Faber. This house used to be thie parsonage on the Hampton charge. Mr. and Mrs. Faber have renovated the home and grounds to make it into a shop for antiques and other beauti- fui things such as china, crystal, hand work and a great variety of fabulous articles - many from England, Italy and, Germany. One just has to go to see the beautiful collection., Mr. and Mrs. Faber are far from through, in their plans for their home, so it wiil be most interesting to see this famous 119 year-old house when they are nearing com- pletion of ail their ideas. Mrs. Faber and her mother, Mrs. W.V. Ranstead, wel- comed us as we arrived. About 27 Solina ladies were in the group. We were ail seated in the Invely nid dining room - decorated ia red velvet wall- paper, red carpet and a beautiful old dining room suite. The chandelier was a blaze of beauty. Mrs. Faber told how they had named the place - 'The House of Amber'. She has 2 very fascinating figures of Birds in Amber that came from Mexico, Amber may be dated back to 1820-30. After briefly talking about her progress and future plans, we were divided into 2 groups. Mrs. Faber conducted one group while her mother was in charge of the other. We were fascinated with 50 many beautiful things and the his- tory of some. When 1/2 hr. had passed (not nearly enough time) we were conducted back to the dining room where the twxo hostesses served us a Il delightful punch. Then Mrs. Faber answered questions we were all curious about. The shop wili be open fromn 9 to 9 o'clock on Thurs and Fr, Sat and some Sundays. Open, by appointment at other times. We were given a beautifully decoratedmatch folder as a memento of visîting the shop. Mrs. B. Hooey, of the West Group, under Family and Consumer Affairs, thanked Mrs. Faber and Mrs. Ran- stead for our interesting visit. I personally wouldn't have missed it!
