Peterborough Presbyterial Meet 0f Centreville Church Sixty-one women registered at Centrevihie Church for the Peterborough Presbyterial Semi-Annual meeting on Wed- nesday, May 5th, 1976. Mrs. A.W. Allen, the President, opened the meeting with Greetings and Prayer. The theme was "The Blessedness of Daily Work" and the verse, Psalms 104:23. The Worship Service led by Mrs. Roger Roberts expressed the thought that work is a form of Worship and a service to 'others. Unselfish service brings much joy. It is the fulfilling of our Lord's command to love one another. Mrs. A.M, Middleton read the Scripture. Minutes- of the Annual meeting were read and ap- proved. Mrs. Thursa Hill resigned as Youth Secretary due to increased responsibili- ties in home duties and Mrs. Don Hope took the office. A meoting of the Toronto- Kingston Synodical was held in Kirkland Lake in April and reports were given by five delegates, three of whom were attending for the first time and were very much impress- ed by the hospitality of the North. The need for concen- tration on childrens' and youth work was stressed as it is at a low ebb in the churches at present. Mrs. Marion Curie, Stella Boswell and Mrs. J.E. Kee were first timers and were accompanied by Mrs. A.W. Allen and Miss Clara Thain. .Mrs. Ruby McCulloch gave the Supply report and stated that articles for World Vision could be left wîth Mrs. Tom Cook, 596 Park St. South, Peterborough, when complet- ed, and they would be for- warded to Toronto. Reports were given to date by After- noon Groups Secretary, Mrs. Bruce Twigg, Evening Groups Secretary, Mrs. D. Endicott, and Literature Secretary, Mrs. Carol Knapper. Mary Greer offered Grace before a bounteous buffet lunch was enjoyed and after time al- lowed for browsing at the book table, the afternoon session opened with Greetings from the Presbytery brought by Rev. T.J. McKinney. An interesting resume of the work of the Presbyterial over the past 65 years was given by the Historians, Mrs. Audrey Eby. Rev. Sandy Beaton- brought a welcome from Centreville Church. The Trea- surer's report given by Mrs. J.E. Kee, was very encourag- ing. Frances Seems, who was organist for the day, accom- panied Mrs. Judy Saunders and Mrs. Gloria Grove as they sang "Something Good is Going to Happen to You. " The offering was taken and Miss Violet Scott made the Offera- tory Prayer. SMrs. Maude Fitzsimons of Council Executive introduced a personal friend of hers, Mrs. Heather Johnston, wîfe of Dr. John Johnston of Hamilton, who was to address the meeting. Mrs. Johnston was the Lay Representative of the Presbyterian Church in Cana- da at the World Council of Churches in Nigeria in 1976. She explained that the World Council of Churchs was form- ed in 1948 by the major Protestant Churches and has met every seven years since. The theme was "Jesus Christ Frees and Unites." She spoke of the elation of sharing Christ and the pain of problems to be solved created through the differences of customs; and values of various cultures. 20 per cent of the delegates were women and she felt they would have increasing contribution to make as they work with men on the common ground of being Children of God alone, unhampered by the label of sex. For her, the highlight was the closing ceremony when a beautiful Indian girl from the United States interpreted the Lord's Prayer in Indian sign language. This was under- stood by ail regardless of language and was very uplift- ing. Mrs. Johnston communi- cated her enthusiasm and left us much wiser. She had been appointed one of 16 to sit on a committee for planning the next Council in 1983. Mrs. J.E. Kee thanked Mrs. Johnston and the Courtesies report was given by Mrs. Fullerton. Mary Greer closed the day with prayer and a social hour was enjoyed be- fore the ladies departed. Coming to Civic Canada's own top female vocalist, Anne Murray, will be appearing at the Cîvic Audit- orium in Oshawa this Friday at 8 p.m. Tickets are still available at the box office for her per- formance.
