Having fun and raising money for it is a great way to spend a Friday aftern oon as these workers in a carnival to aid Muscular Dystrophy research proved. The group raised $20 through a wheel of fortune, a ring-toss game, a magie show and fortune reading. The carnival's organizer, Mrs. Ian Smith, with her family's help sent 100 notices around to mothers for toys, books and other items that were sold and given as prizes for the games. Above, the helpers for the carnival are Mark Van Haut, Tracy Anderson, Donnie Van Haut, Gary Van Haut, Chris Wilson, Jeff Jaques, Greg Smith and Steve Smith. they trail Whitby by haîf a game. Whitby and the Legion- aires lead the league and are followed by Kingston, Belle- ville, Peterborough, Oshawa, Port Hope, Trenton, Thurlow, and Ajax in that order. Bowmanville 24 Ajax 2 On Thursday in Ajax the Legionaires had no trouble in coming home with a win. With Dean Holmes who came up with his eighth win of the season they had no trouble in defeating the shorthanded Ajax crew. It was simply no contest as Bowmanville scor- ed 6 r uns in the first inning. Al the players in the Bowman- ville line-up came up with at least one bit as they rang up a total of nineteen. The Legionaires were at home to Ajax Monday night the l9th and travel to Oshawa on the 27th. They then have three postponed games to make up. One each at Soper Creek against Port Hope and Ajax and an away game at Whitby. Let's get out and support Minor League Basebaîl in Bowmanville. The Tykes and Pee Wees play at Memorial Park, the Bantams and Mid- gets at Soper Creek. Players from aîl teams are now selling raffle tickets to maise money in order to be self supporting. Firstly, 1 think we should try to identify (hem. Attitude of Spectators For the most part, Mosport spectators have been a well behaved group of people. However, it only takes a small 1minority to. spoil it for -everyone. ThisTàck of concern by a small minority (for the rights of others) has brought some complaînts to Mosport's management. Incidents of boisterous and inconsiderate behavior are on the rise. Nor is it a sufficient excuse to say (bat because this type of bebavior is being experîenced at provincial parks around the province, ýat beaches, and at private camping grounds we cannot expect to be any different. Off Road Vehicles The free and easy access to the whole property by off rond vehicles has created a bazzard to the pedestrian spectator. It cannot be allowed to continue. Vehie les on the Track after Racing In spite of barriers and personnel on the track (o, inhibit (bis occurence, there are still those, who continue this dangerous practîce. Camping against the track fences For years, this complaint has rung out. In spite of deadheads and cable instal- lations being added in many prime viewing areas, some spectators have continued to camp in areas which are designated for viewing onîy. Inability to, Stay on Schedule A valid criticismn usually caused by late start on the morning of each race day. Sanitary Facilities In spite of having buiît two separate flusb toilet instal- lations (infield and under start finish' grandstands), com- plaints are still being register- ed against the conditions that prevail. Our Reply The criticisms are valid and must be denît with in a fashion so as (o cure the ilîs not eliminate the good times and good racing. Our plan is firstly to ban camping within the infield and ou(field areas of the track witb one exception. A new campground will be establisbed in the northwest section of the site. This campsite will be laid out in streets and by lots. Each l-ot will be 25 feet square. Campers arriving at Mosport during the race event will be assigned to their lot in an orderly fashion by Mosport staff. In view of, the fact (bat tbis camp will be limited to approximately 3,000 sites, ac- commodations will be offered on a first come, first served. The Ontario Provincial Police along with Mosport personnel will patrol the area to ensure (bat any unruly campers will be deait with in such a fachion as (o pro(ec( (be rights of ail. Camping will no longer be offered free of charge. ,A nominal fee of $1.00 per person per night is being planned. Our gates for camping will be open 24 hours. However, the spectator gates to the track areas will be open only during the following hours: Friday - 8 am. - 8p.m. Saturday -6 a.m. - 8p.m. Sunday - 4 a.m. -8 p.m. Aerosol 5 oz. D) & R SPORTS3 and SKI 5SHOP0 85 King St. West 623-3421Bomnil allow camping spectators to drive their vehicles into the park to enjoy a day of racing (or they could walk, it isn't that far) and it would also allow one day spectators lots ofAime to arrive and reach before racing starts. When the gates are locked for the night, ail carswill be cleared by Mosport staff from the track areas. Firewood which has been given to spectators free of charge in the p ast has also caused problems. Some spectators have hoarded large caches of firewood, leaving others with none. Our solution is simple ... we will sel firewood at a nominal rate to aîl - 50 cents per armfull (the bigger the arm, the better the deal). Track barriers are already under construction. These barriers will be chained to existing guardrail. 'Since no camping with access to the track is to be permitted, we believe that this problem is also solved. The camping against the track fences, we believe is also solved by the new campsite. Our inability to stay on schedule has largely been caused by spectators breaking bottles on the track during the night. For years, we have had a crew of 40 to 60 people pick glass off the track from sun-up until they finished . This usually meant a late start for the races. We believe that this proIblem is also solved by Newtonville 0. Senior Division Hampton 2, IDA 1; Orono 4, Tyrone 4; Glen Rae 1 eliminating camping in the race track area. Those specetators bringing off road vehicles to the park who don't wish to have them impounded may camp in the Honda Sport Park and have the use of this 55 acre site to ride their vehicles. To get to this area, you must'ý enter through the B.F. Goodrich gate. Security will be estab- lished to ensure that none of these vehicles are allowed to exit this area. Ahl other motorcycles and off rond vehicles will be impounded for 0t'he auration of the weekend. A special compound will be established at the Goodyear Gate with 24 hour security. Not only will this give the spectators a rest from the rushing around of these bikes, but also will allow the owners of thèese vehicles security in the knowledge that their bikes are safe for the weekend. The, conditions at ahl sani- tary facilities shaîl be: - The number to be increased before the Player's 200 Week- end - A special crew bas been assigned to do nothing but service nîl of these facilities so as to ensure that they are kept dlean, well suppplied with paper etc., and as odourless as fence and patio centre Fora Il your fencing needs including Farm Fence, T- Bars and Gates TAUNTON RD.
