Trustees Discuss Core Curriculum The core curriculum being introduced 40 Ontario's schools will be a' mixed blessing according to school board superintendant of instruction, Robert Moorcroft. Mr. Moorcroft suggested at a board of education meeting in Cobourg last week that students who can't cope with the new cirriculum simply wouldn' t receive their Secon- dary Sehool Diplomas. Mr. Moorcroft wasspeaking in reply to a question from trus tee Marriett Reisier, vice chairina;i of the Ïboard. Meanwhil ,Cobourg trustee, Dr. Ian Wilson sug- gested that the curriculum should begin with the elemeni- tary sehools. At present, the new guide- lines would cover grades 7 to 10 but Dr. Wilson stated that it would make more sense to start at the bottom of the heap and make cirriculum changes from there. Dave Patterson, the board's superintendant for planning, stated that in the past two years, the Northumberland- Newcastle school board has spent $70,000 developing its own curriculum guidelines. The funds were spent wtîîle wa iting for the provincial guidelines on core curriculum. OBITUARY MIlS.
