The first period was scoreless. The Toros opened the scoring towards the end of period when Scott Heard hit the mark on a pass from Deryk Clark and Chris Michel- son. The visitors tied the game less than 2 minutes later. The Bowmanville team took the lead again at the 20 second mark of the 3rd period. Kelly Matthews was the marksman with the assist going to Raymond Cummings. Peter- borough came back to tie the game and then scored their Kingston winning goal with 2.34 left in the game to defeat the Toros 3-2. The Toros travelled to Brockville on Friday, Jan. 7th, to participate in a tourna- ment. They played Smiths Falls on Saturday, success- fully defeating them 3-1. The Toros scored one goal in each period. Their opponents' only goal was scored in the opening period. Bowmanville's scorers were Scott Heard, Raymond Cummings and Wayne Mutton with assists going to Chuck Nash, Heard and Cummings. On Sunday, the Toros met Kingston Township. The Toros played a good strong game but were unable to put the puck past Kingston's goalie who did an excellent job of defending his net. Kingston scored in the opening period and again in the final to win the game 2-0. This defeat eliminated the Toros' chances of going fur- ther in the tournament. The Toros' next home game is on Saturday, Jan. 15th when they meet Ajax at 3 p.m. at Memorial Arena. In-fighting is another discription and Panthers are masters at this type of game. Unfortunately what Eagles do not seem to realize is that the referees see only the retaliation. Port Hope have the most potent power play in the league. An advantage which they cannot be given was turned into three goals in this game. Eagles' Coach Bob Cosburn, on the other hand apparently had not done his homework well, leaving right winger Barry Roy (16) com- pletely uncovered, allowing him to score four goals including the game winner often he had counted three game winning goals against Eagles in previous games. Panthers were hungry ,for this big game all ines skating flat out and checking ten- aciously while Eagles on the other hand had only five players showing the necessary full game effort. Noticeably missing from the Eagles lineup was the Hustler AI Emard out with an injury and Captain Joe Humenich also on the sîdelines. Panthers had a big edge over the Eagles taking 10 of possible 12 points. At this point, the two teams are tied for first place but Port Hope has one game in hand. Eagles have two remaining games at home and four on the road for a total of six while Panthers have seven, so it looks like Port Hope first spot unless Eagles can get help from the opposition. Eagles must set their sights on ending up no lower than second with first ton place still in reach. Lenny Chappell held Eagles in the game with Port Hope enjoying a two man edge early first period play. Sharpshoot- er Barry Roy started Pan- thers scorîng assisted by linemates Brad Davis and Tim Hargreaves. Panthers next goal, a very big one was the result of all three Eagle forwards standing around in their defensive zone. Barry Roy scoring from Davis and Ken Swales. Eagles' Brian Simpson scored a power play goal on a shot from the short side assisted by Boyd Knox and Rory Gibbs. Rory Gibbs counted Eagles third goal unassisted a deflection in the last minute of the second with' Eagles shorthanded. The local fans had their first chance in the third period to test Ducky Neads' newly supported roof on the next two goals by Eagles with the loudest cheers of the season on goals by Boyd Knox, an unassisted blast, then the tying goal by Rory Gibbs unassisted to turn loose some high decibel cheering. Eagles hard work went for nothing as right winger Barry Roy was allowed to skate end to end untouched beating Chappell who had not cut down the angle. Barry Roy scored the insurance goal into the empty Eagle net, Chris Bullen assist- ing to finish scoring. The Hooper Trophy Centre Three Stars of the game were first, Barry Roy with four goals including the game winner, second, Boyd Knox with the burners in high gear, third, one of the best centres in the league, the very talented Brad Davis.
