Januarv iqI Q77 7 Propose Raise, For Chairmen of Regional Comm ittees A motion that would give five regional councillors a $1000 raise was introduced at a meeting of Durham Regional Council last Wednesday. The councillors eligible for the raise would be the ~chairman of five standing committees. 1At present, they get a $500 stipend as committee chair- men but the motion introduced last week by Ajax mayor, Clark Mason would give them $1500. Regional. council voted not to debate the motion but the subjeet will come up for discussion when the council meets again January 26th. Other Comimittee Appointments Six non-electèd members have been appointed to the Town of Newcastle's Planning Advisory Committee. ý Council appointed the mema- bers in a meeting last Mon- day, January 10. Theappoint- ees include: ýHarold Balson, Keith Barr, Kirk Entwisle, Harold Hamînond, Ron Hetherington, and Dr. H.R. Rowsell. Appointments to other comn- mittees are as follows: Li- brary Board: P. Scbmiegelo, Museum Board: R'. Hancock, Committee of Adjustment: H. Muir, L. Welsh, W. Clarke, Hospital Board: J. Stutt, 0. Cobban, L. Down, G. Brunton. Appointments to community hall boards have not yet been decided. The town's commun- ity services committee will recommend appointees for theseboards. BETHANY (Intended For Last Week) The Golden Star Senior Citizens, bad a most enjoyable, meeting, when the grades five and six pupils, of Grandvîew school entertained then in a number of musicai selections under the capable leadersbip of- Mrs. Sharon Carew and accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Betty Anne Shewchuck. "Music is one of God's good gifts to man" certainly proved true, as eacb child contributed bis vocal talent. The Senior "itizens expressed their ap- .f7eciation to Mr, Capeling, Mrs. Carew, Mrs. Shewcbuck and the pupils by tbeir president, Mrs. Belle Smith by a few words' of thanks.
