8 The Canadjan Statesman, Bowmanville, July 26, 1978 Scenesrom Spotlight Theatre's Production Peter Zednik plays the role of a guest who just doesn't seem to want to leave in one of a series of foi plays underway this month in Bowmanville. With him is Marjorie Sutton in a scene from "The Ne Quixote." -The production underway at Bowmanville's Spotlight Theatre is entitled "The Two of Us" and it isa about the relationships between couples as illustra ted by four skits. Performances are scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Bowmanville Spotlight Theati located in the former Baptist church on Neson St. Curtain time is eight p.m. C omedy at its Hilariou, Presented by Spotlight]1 Only An Audience Was' By Mary Ann Warkman "The Two of Us" opened at the Spotlight Theatre on Nelson Street on Thursday, July 20 to an audience of about 20. The cast and crew outnumbered the patrons for Friday evening's per- formance but the show went on. An undaunted team of amateur actors and actresses, performed a marathon which would have been hot work even if it had not been a sweltering night. (The term amateur only means they are not paid for their work; they can be termed professional in every other sense of the word.) The play is made up of four one-act plays. The first, entitled "Black and Silver", involves a married couple with an infant vacationing at their honeymoon hotel. Stephen has the problemn that Smany husbands do, of confusing their married friends' names. Stephen unfortunately invited his frîend Barney to dinner and Jo invited Barney's wife with her new boyfriend Alex. Peter Zednik and Marjorie Sutton play the men's and women's parts respectively at top speed for a rollicking climax to the evening's entertainment. Paul Spencer, a Whitby Theatre Company regular, directed the actors whose lightning costume changes left them and the audience breathless. The back stage show would have been more astonishing as wigs were donned and removed and pants with broken zipper exchanged. Although the audience was small, they were appreciative. Even the set changes were hilarjous as actors and directors became stage hands and removed a mattress with bed boards that were to become Roman columns and later hammered a table leg into place. Marjorie Sutton, the theatre's founder and artistie director of this production, wonders what it takes to motivate people. The publicity for this comedy written by Michael Frayn was good. The last production, "Dangerous Corner" had the good fortune tir of bringing many theatre- ew goers who were fellow- teachers of some of the actors. alWord or mouth also spread the good word and audiences increased nightly. This time tre it's holiday season and it's very hot. Perhaps people were ew tired from sidewalk shopping on b ut the production goes on and again this weekend on JuIy 27, ian 28 and 29. The entrance is at 'ith the rear. Curtain time is at ed 8:00 p.m. The dress is casual an and the heat is forgotten as soon as the lights dim for this isis comedy at its side-holding VIr. best. rie TYR ONE ies Results of the Senior ife Citizens card party for ig Friday, July 4th are as he follows: lst Lee Reeves, 2nd Martha Woolley, 3rd Alice ý Beech, 4th Susie1 Harris, 5th )us Blanche Beadie, 6th Olive Ind Gimlett.
