61 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, August 2, 1978 Bethany Mrs. Mary Capeli is spending a few days in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Porter ,Mitchell, Stephenville, Nfld. are visiting friends in Bethany, Pontypool and surrounding areas. Mr. Gerry Staples recently visited his son Terry in Toronto. The Auction Sale of the household effects of the late Miss Lila Davis and the late Mrs. Myrtie Thompson attracted a huge crowd. Some beautiful antiques, particu- larly dishes, were to be greatly admired and brought good prices. Mr. and Mrs. W. MeMahon, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Masters and Mr. and Mrs. Emery Smith (and perhaps many more fromn this area) attended the Arts and Water Festival in Peterborough on Sunday evening when the naine of the Point St. Charles Park was officially changed to "Crary Park on Point St. Charles" ini honour of the late Del Crary. Del was one of the main organizers and supporters of the Festival when and since it began in 1971. A native of Peterborough, hie was a superb musician, leading his own dance band for many years, a well-known radio broadcaster and, at the time of his death, community relations director at CKPT. The entire evening's program was in the formi of a tribute to Del. Master of Ceremonies Stan MeBride told- the crowd of nearly 3000 that 'Del was in the Festival from the start, and, believe me, hie is here toniglt." Father Gerry Grant of St. Aiphonsus Chruch performed the dedication ceremony and said, in part, "Del Crary spent his life affirming people, making them feel they were 'somebody.' How rnany lives did he touch? They would'be impossible to count but we can leara much from the examlp'le set by this man we are honouring tonight. People continuing to corne to this Park, which lie so loved in all its seasons, will keep the naine of Del Crary alive eternally," Contributing to the evening's entertaiament were somne persons froin among those whose lives he influerced. There was, first of all, his son Michael who announced his intention to carry on tie musical tradition of his fathçr and sang two MuQih appreciated numbers. fbobby Kinsman and lis fifteeni-pie band of which Del wess onée a part, vocalists Ada Lef,ý Colleen Dempsey, and Marg Westfall and Comedian Orv Waimnan, ail of whom are radio, television or recording artists across, Canada and United States and each of whom is either a native of Peterborough or has become a resident in later years--all of them paid sincere musical tribute to Del Crary. Many of us in this area were familiar with 'Del's 'Sunday morning radio program when hie featured nostalgic music ot &gour" era.1 Despite failing health hie continued to present thîs prograin for five hours every Sunday morning until a few days before his untîmely passing on February 21 at the age of 59. CKPT broadcaster Dale Sproulehas respectfully continued with a prograin in the traditional Crary manner, On the 9th Sunday after Trinity, Rev. Wayne Chatter- ton addressed the joint congregations of Bethany, using as his text Chapter 53 of the Book of Isaiah. It begins as an almost accurate lquote from, a shepherd's manual as the laws of creation are applied to the human flock. How does salvation, which is "Christ in our midst", corne home to Christians? In ancient Israel, sheep rearing was the common industry and. an individual sheep was valuable and important. Today, we connote sheep with stupidity and dislike. God is the giver, to His sheep. Some folk think of Hum as Judgmental, stingy and unsympathetic. Others it is so great - God's love. But it is the beauty of Jesus that takes up the slack and rendors our sins as equal to God's love. So God doesn't take the black sheep and make it white; instoad He takes the lost lamb and brings it inside the fold. Hence,,God dwelling in us is our righteousnoss - by Hils Spirit, He works out Hfis plan. c Saýve .234* or 44% BEST BUY LB Save QO or 33% BEST BUY Product of U.S.A. -af WHOLE WATERMELON 1 8 16 lb. avg.
