4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, August 9, 1978 ____ Wyoman Dies I Following 401 Accident A 36-year-old St. Catharines woman injured in a single- vehicle accident on Highway 401 about one week ago has died in hospital.. Ontario Provincial Police at Newcastle reported this week that Sandra Swales died August 5 as a resuit of her injuries. She was a passenger in an eastbound car which went out of contrai near Courtice Raad at approximately 10 p.m., August lst. Police said the vehicle driven by her 17-year- aid son, James Swales, came ta rest on its roof on the shoul- der of the highway. An OPP spokesman said Sandra Swales was taken ta, Bawmanville'Memorial Hos- pital and then transferred ta Sunnybroak Hospital in Tor- onta. She suffered. seriaus head injuries in the accident. Firemen Had Four Calis On Weekend The Bowmanville Firehal tackled four calîs during the holiday weekend. Newcastle Fire Chief Jim Hayman said yesterday that two af the four will be investigated by the Ontario Fire Marshall's Office. Chief Hayman said a blaze near Orono, east of the former Clarke and Darlingtan Town- line Monday night caused $6,000 ta $8,000 in damage and will be investigated by the fire marshalls. The fire broke out in a house located on Regional Raad 1'our at approximately 8:45 p.m. Firefighters from the Bawmanville Firehaîl were called toaàasist Firehaîl Three in Orano. Also under investigation is a fire which occurred just before one o'clock Monday afternoon at the abandoned canning factory lacated south of the Bawmanville Goodyear plant. Little damage was reparted, Chief Hayman said. The tire was noticed by Joe, Popavich, of 32 Victoria St., and firemen were called. Two vehicle fires occurred on the weekend. Chief Hay- man said that on Saturday marning, August 5, a van caught fire on the parking lot of the Bowmanville Senior Public School. A second vehicle fire occur- red Monday evening at R.
