18 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 4, 1978 BLACKSTOCK Blackstock hillbillies Dave and Nancy Barr won the prize for being The Best-Dressed at the 'Lil' Abner Dogpatch dance in Blackstock. Wednesday evening in Tor- onto at the First Annual Festival of the World of Women held at the Queen Elizabeth Building on the Exhibition Grounds, Paula Lishman, a resident of Black- stock held a large audience captive for thirty , minutes watching a unique fashion presentation. Wild music play- ed as trained dancers portray- ed the advance of fur from the chill of a caveman's cold environment to modern day through the elements of fire- air - earth - water - wind. Long coats, short coats, sweaters, capes, and hats were just a few of the items presented on .stage. All of them had been made using Paula Lishman's new patented technique of fur fashion. At the end of the presentation Paula, Bill and son Aaron walked onto the stage to take their bow, wearing fur and for Bill the added touch of across his chest, "Token Male Sex Ob- ject". Throughout the building during the five day show over 100 special exhibitors operat- ed booths of interest to the mature woman, and the work- ing girl. Crowded, but happy, the Senior Citizens made room for 23 tables of euchre on Tuesday night in Blackstock. The winners were: 1 - Harold Swain 93; 2 - Yeoman Luke 87; 3 - Wilfred Wilson 86; 4 - Freeman McCulough 83; 5 - William MacFarland 83; 6 - Lewis Cain 83; and low - Arthur Clark. Close to thirty enjoyed the presentation of a film of consumer interest and a talk on nutritional shopping given by Claire Gurley of Toronto from the National Diet Infor- mation Centre, on Wednesday evening at the Recreational Centre. The diet club, friends and members were given several door prizes and in- dividual goodie bags. General Meeting U.C.W. A good crowd of 40 or so attended the General Meeting of the U.C.W. on Wednesday evening at the United Church, including friends from the Anglican Church and the North Nestleton United Church. Ruby Van Camp opened the meeting by presenting several young people that had attend- ed Camp Quin Mo Lac during the summer for a sing song of interesting Christian Camp- fire songs. There was no Treasurer or Secretaries re- port at this meeting due to the interest of the guest speaker. Joanne Lee gave a devotional message on the Thanksgiving theme before the meeting was turned over to Rev. Roger Maggs. Rev. Roger Maggs is the Chaplain of the Oshawa Gene- ral Hospital. He showed a twenty-minute slide program on the Oshawa Hospital, staff and patients followed by a question and answer period. His talk was interesting and informative on the duties and problems faced by the chap- lain of a large hospital in the modern day world. Edith McLaughlin reported on the future plans of the Storm Glazing Fund Commit- tee. Help is needed, hopefully some good strong men, to serve and help at the two Pancake Breakfasts coming soon, October 22 and Novem- ber 19, to be held at the Recreational Centre in Black- stock. There is also a request for used articles of Auction value to be donated to the auction sale to be held at Malmont Sales Barn in Octo- ber. While the evening luncheon was being served U.C.W. members were reminded of the two Regional Meetings taking place October 16 at Hampton and October 24 at Claremont; if interested call Ruby Van Camp. Thursday afternoon the nur- sery school class was treated to a walk through a "pumpkin patch" at the home of Mary Mackie's where she also I I - served them special tarts. On Friday evening the Recreational Centre was filled with well over a hundred guests for a "Buck and Doe" Dance held in honor of Cindy Van Camp and Dennis Werry. The replacement of the old 'Stag Party' was organized by John and Karen Buckley of Lindsay who will stand up with Cindy and Dennis this Saturday evening. 'Doc' from Lindsay provided D.J. ser- vices and a special presenta- tion of money and good wishes was made to the happy couple. The marriage of Marion Bradburn to Clarence Dun- ning took place on Saturday afternoon at the United Church in Blackstock with a reception following at the Genosha Hotel in Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. Dunning will reside in Ottawa following a vacation in Hawaii. A Father and Son Banquet was held at the Recreation Centre on Saturday evening in connection with the cubs and scouts. A beautiful dinner of pot luck was provided by the Ladies Auxiliary. There was an animated film shown on scouting and several awards of equal value were presented. The one hundred and fifteen men and boys served the banquet would like to thank the mothers that gave freely of their time and cooking abilities. Don, JoAnne, Russell and their children Kyle and Dana moved into the village of Cadmus over the weekend. They received help from many friends and relatives including Don's father and mother and brother from Windsor, Gord and Barb Russell and Ken, who enjoyed spending the weekend be- tween houses. A group of Christian parents of the Community met at the Parish Hall on Sunday even- ing with the view of forming a teen group in the area. An organizational meeting of the teens will be held at the Anglican Parish Hall on Sunday, October the 15 from 7-9 p.m., all interested young people are invited to come and share their ideas. Another parents meeting will be held at the United Church in the Christian Education Room on Sunday, October the 22 at 8:00 p.m. All interested parents of any denomination are urged to attend. Sorry to report that Earl Bradburn is a patient at the Oshawa General Hospital, the community wishes him a speedy recovery. The Gerald Kelly family spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Kelly in Bobcaygeon for the event of the Annual Fair. Gloria and Ross Atkinson spent the weekend with bro- ther Bill and Lee Atkinson at their cottage on the Bay in Collingwood. Sunday there was a large congregation gathered at the United Church where World Wide Communion Sunday was observed. The Sacrament of Baptism will be administered Sunday, October 15. Parents wishing to have children baptized are asked to contact the minister. Confirmation Class is tonight (Wednesday) at 3:45 at the church. May Wotten was honored on Thursday, September 28 with a family dinner out on the occasion of her 85th birthday. Bob and Marion Miller and their youngest daughter, Lisa of Ajax dropped in and enjoyed Saturday lunch with Dave and Carol Andrews and family in the Smith's woods. It's not work to walk.
