Bowmanville, October 4.,1978 Section Two TI'YROE (Intended for last week) An exhibition game of soccer was played in Tyrone park on Sunday afternoon between the Oshawa "Lions" team and a local team of the twelve and thirteen years old league. Tyrone won the game 2-1. Bernhard- Heming, bas coached the team this season, assisted by Graham Dallas. A "Tree Bec" was held on Saturday, September 23, 1978, at-Tyrone Community Centre Park. Between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.mi. about ninety young hardwood trees were removed from the -woodlot of, Mr. Murray Yeo and replanted around the perimeter of the park. Posts were put in to designate the parking area also. Those taking part were: John Virtue, John Forbes, Gerry Cornîsh, Loran Pascoe, Ralph Bowers, Ralphf Davey, Tony Janczyn, Murray Yeo, Walter Park, Bernie Heming. The park bas accommodated literally hundreds of players in a single day on more than one occasion with its three basebaîl diamonds and two soccer fields. This varièty of shade trees should enhance the area for years and years to corne. Tyro Boys Group meetings have, resumcd, being held Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in the, C.É. Wing of the church. Boys age 8 to il are welcome. Tim Southwell, son of Mr. and Mrs*. Doug Southwell was acting pianist for church service on Sunday, September 24th, fulfilling the duties with fine capability, very enjoyable for the congregation. OBITUARIES JANE MCDOUGALL JOHNSON A long-time resident of Tyrone, Mrs. Jane MeDougall Johnson, died at the age of 83 on September 11, 1978. Mrs. MeDougali Johnson had been iii for 10 years. She passed away at Community Hospital in Port Perry. Born in Girvin Scotland, Mrs. McDougall Johnson was the daughter of John and Jane Irvine. She was educated in Ayr, Seotland and Markham before settling in Tyrone. She was a member of the Long Sault Club 50. A member of the Tyrone United Church, she is survived by ber sons Albert William, Blackstock; John Irvine, Oshawa; daughters Mrs. Mabel Rowlcy, Paigrave; Mrs. Jean Bent, Newcastle; brother, William Irvine, Hamilton and sisters Rita, Sctland; Isobel, Hamilton and five grandcbildr-en end 12 great grandehildren. Rev. Kempling officiated the service. The funeral took place on September 13 at Northcutt and Elliott Funeral Home in Bowmanvillc. Palîbearers wcre Adam Sharp, Raymond Clapp, Albert Davey, Harry Degeer, Walter Loveridgc and Eari Penwarden. Interment at Bethcsda Cemetery. VAN CAMP Edna Thelma Van Camp passed away suddenly on 'Tbursday, September 7th, 1978. Born in Manvers Township on June 14, 1902, the daughter of the late Duncan and Mary June Heaslip of Yelverton, she was united in marriage to Harry Van, Camp on November 30,1932. Better known, as "Aunt Edna" to al in Blackstock, she was always loving and giving to everyone in the community.
